Before stepping into the story lets make sure that we see Lord Shiva as our fellow human being for better understanding. According to yogis and myths, Shiva was not actually seen as a god. He is a human being who walked into this land and lived in the Himalayan region.
It is also said that Shiva has 5 different love stories. All those 5 women were goddesses and each one stands for something significant. They are Shakti (Sati), Parvati, Uma, Durga and Kali. For this article, let's investigate the beautiful love story of Shiva and Sati.
Shiva
Shiva is very popularly known for his meditation. He could meditate for years and could be so into it that anything that happens around him never disturbs him. He spent most of his life as a hermit, meditating. Vishnu who was worried about Shiva being hermit, he asked Brahma for a solution. Brahma suggested his own granddaughter Sati, born to Daksha.
Sati
Sati was a devote of shiva right from her childhood. She served him and tried to spend maximum time around him. She went through rigorous penance and meditation thinking about Shiva without any food and clothes to marry him. They got married at last but Daksha was against the marriage and was not happy about it. Daksha always wanted her to get married to God rather than a normal human being.
The Yagna
Sati's father Daksha organizes a Yagna to which he invited all his Sons-in-law to take part in the rituals, except Shiva. Sati rushes to her father and confronts him at the ritual. Daksha mocks Shiva's ascetic ways in front of all the assembles guests. As a result of humiliation, Sati sacrifices herself by jumping into the sacrificial fire at the ritual space.
Shiva’s rage!
Hearing the story, Shiva breaks down and transforms into Virabhadra. Shiva "The Destroyer!" He destroys everyone who was numb seeing Sati jump into the fire. He was irresistible and he returned to the stable state only after beheading Daksha.
Heart Break
Destroying things was never a healer to Shiva’s broken heart.Shiva goes all around the world carrying the charred remains of Sati's corpse. He had tears rolling down from his eyes all the time. He thinks, cries and moans.
Shiva (The Creator) being like this started affecting the well-being of the entire world. Considering the well being of the world, the Devas cut Sati’s corpse into tiny pieces and destroys them.
The Himalayas!
With the body gone, Shiva was able to overcome his sorrows. He travels and goes into a cave in the Himalayas, trying to get himself out of all anger and pain. There is also a myth that this is the reason why Shiva has a third eye in his forehead which kills all the desires(lust) with the fire (which killed Sati)
Even Lord Shiva has gone through a heartbreak then who are we in front of him!?It is said, a moment of recreation like travelling helps you to explore and experience at the same time. One can witness how it has even helped Lord Shiva to heal overtime. Hence, like Lord Shiva, be a destroyer but not the destroyer of the people who ruined your life and left you all alone. Instead, be the destroyer of the ego and selfishness inside you!
