I recently watched ‘You’, an American thriller series available on Netflix. To sum it up in a word, it was eerily-awesome. I would also add that it has the potential to drive you crazy. Crazier, if you cannot binge-watch it. Starring Penn Badgley, Elizabeth Lail and Shay Mitchell, the amazing acting showcased by the cast was alone a feast. But the icing on the cake was of course the storyline which was very intelligently crafted based on the book which goes by the same name written by Caroline Kepnes. Added to this, other people who deserves the attention ‘you’ has been getting are Greg Berlanti and Sera Gamble who developed the series.

While the series was aired originally on Lifetime and the first episode was released on September 9, 2018, it recently rose to fame after Netflix internationally released it on December 26, 2018. Penn Badgley can be seen in the shoes of Joe Goldberg, a very charming book store manager who at a glance fits into the book of ‘nice guys’. After having ‘bad boys’ as heroes of movies and series since ages, this, first of all will seem like a refreshing change. As the series progresses from one episode to another, you will be able to discover Joe’s sinisterly good stalking skills. Joe falls in love with a customer named Guinevere Beck (played by Elizabeth Lail) who is a ‘broke poet’ and a college student. This love turns into obsession and these emotions merge into one.

‘You’ explores the saying ‘love conquers all’ in a rather disturbing way. It also focuses on the social media terrors and how easy it is to invade into someone’s private space. While the first season is creating fans across the world, the second season is being cooked and is based on the book ‘Hidden Bodies’ by Kepnes herself. Badgley has been recorded saying that he is trying to stop all this love Joe is getting because he hates the eerie character. He also said that he had trouble in the beginning, as being Joe is no easy task.

The series scored an 8/10 0n IMDb and 91% on Rotten Tomatoes. According to the Google reviews, 94% liked the series. ‘You’ also has Luca Padovan and Daniel Cosgrove as part of the cast. It has ten episodes and each one promises to make your spine shiver with an unnatural equity. I, for a fact, believe that season 2 of the series will be promising the same.
