Peace - need of the hour

Peace is not only absence of war but a state of complete harmony within oneself and around us. Peace is the need of the hour of every individual, society, community, country and the world as a whole. Today, when ourvery existence is threatened by war, terrorism and a nuclear holocaust, only peace can save the earth from perishing. Hence world peace is indispensable. Our ancient scriptures have emphasized the importance of peace as following:

May there be peace in the heavens, peace in atmosphere and peace on earth. Let there be coolness in water, healing in herbs and peace radiating from trees. Let there be harmony In the planets and in the stars and the perfection in eternal knowledge. May everything in universe be at peace? Let peace pervade everywhere, at all times. May I experience that peace in my own heart?

The great Noble Prize Laureate Mother Teresa said:

“Peace begins with a smile”.

And “I see someone dying I pick him up. I find somebody hungry, I give him food. He can love be loved. I don’t look at his color and religion. Every person is my brother or sister.”

If only we imbibe and inculcate such immensely kind and humane behavior, we can show light to those who are blinded by illiteracy, ignorance or hatred.

Renowned Social Activist Sir Martin Luther King said:

Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that. Hate is like the Demoness Medus. It raises its innumerable ugly heads in the form of violent protests, hate killings, murders, road rage and vandalism etc. also terrorism claims millions of lives every year. In our own country we are said to practice the motto of UNITY IN DIVERSITY but in the race to excel oneself and in the garb of progress and development, we have become an impatient and intolerant society. One human does not accept the color, caste, creed, religion, race or gender of another. Religious fundamentalism and fanaticism is prevalent in the world and so is religionism and pseudo nationalism infusing divisiveness among mankind.

Lets contribute

As the citizens of tomorrow, we must become the harbingers of peace. We should nip the bud of hatred prior to it becoming a menace and engulfing us. We must start to practice and spread peace and goodwill in our home, amongst our families, friends and society as a whole by setting examples for other to follow. Conversing politely and helping neighbors, relatives and friends all these are small gestures which spread love and kindness and go a long way in spreading love, peace and tranquility. Under every possible circumstance we should maintain our calm and avoid and confrontations. We must always remember these words of Sir Martin Luther King:

When evil men plot, good men must plan. When evil men burn and bomb, good men must build and bind. When evil men shout ugly words of hatred, good men must commit themselves of glories of love.
