The crux of the problem.

‘Fantasy gap’ that is the crux of the problem in the present generation. What does it exactly mean?

It means we are more materialistic and less motivated today. Given such a scenario we find ourselves questioning the perceived importance of a lot of money and material goods, as well as the willingness to work hard in two generations, the fact being that if the latter is missing, this gap will only widen.

So while teenagers can happily spend 11 hours a day in front of gaming consoles and connecting through the platforms such as twitter and snapchat and of course instagram the standby favorite of teens, who swear by its filters and direct message feature, when it comes to completing the science homework our lives would come to a standstill if not for the merit nation.

Being a teenager myself I realize that life is dull and boring, to put it in the simplest way without socializing and updating the status is one of the essentials of life and checking the phone for one last time before finally going to sleep is pre requisite for the sleep itself. All I am saying saying is that the associated problems of overuse such as anxiety and depression in a long list requires our attention.

Simple fact

All this long talk for a simple fact, life requires prioritizing and we as the youth lack it. We place high priority on money and possessions. That dream home, that dream car, that job, that perfect life partner, that perfect life which is too flawless to exist and the work ethic is nowhere in sight.

There is this general increase in narcissism and entitlement where the first and foremost task in a teenager’s life is out of sight; the will to work and those few courageous ones who manage to remain focused are nerds. I understand that if you are a cool person and you are called a nerd; all is not well in the world but I do holdstrong conviction that we believe that nerds and geeks and synonymous. First, the most important thing is to note with any of these terms is that they can have both positive and negative connotations. I think that it mainly depends on your self awareness. Apparently the first definition of nerd is “a stupid, irritating, ineffectual, or unattractive person”. But here’s the removing stereotype.

Nerds are intelligent, industrious and understands things while geeks are people interested in things that others are not interested in, know a lot about their interests, but usually do not understand underlying principles. Personally I don’t see anything wrong in both.

Perception of life?

So back to the larger question. What is the perception of life for the current generation? Great question I must say. To answer it I would say that something like perception is created and twisted so quickly that you never know when you begin seeing things differently. But when you look at the larger picture you realize that the perceived importance of materialistic things is high and the ability to achieve them low, and the desire to inculcate that ability even lower. I can only say one thing that we as teenagers require that ability to make our perception reality.

“People think – Rebel, Adamant, Egoistic, Impractical, Proud; My answer – Unconventional, Fighter, Uncompromising, Dreamer, God’s Masterpiece, Perception Matters” --- Henna Sohail
