Vicky Kaushal is very ecstatic with the success of his latest film Uri:The surgical strike, which is still running in the theatres and gave a tough competition to the Kangana Ranaut's starrer Manikarnika The Queen of Jhansi. And he has full right to enjoy the success of his first highly grossing film apart from Sanju which was a multi-starrer and the lead role was eassyed by Ranbir Kapoor. His role as Sanjay Dutt's friend was heavily lauded and also was a quite shocker for the audience.He played the role of Sanjay Dutt's friend as Kamli or Kamlesh Kanhaiyalal Kapasi. His role was discussed for a long time among the movie-goers.

Having completed his engineering and already working as an assistant director on the sets of Anurag Kashyap's directed Gangs of Waaseeypur, he bagged his first movie Masaan. Neeraj Ghaywan the director of Masaan was also working with Anurag Kashyap on the same project and there he was offered this role to him which was earlier scheduled to be eassyed by RajKumar Rao but due to some prior commitments he left the movie.
It was challenging role, a young lad who belongs to the community who is responsible for the cremation of the dead bodies coming to the ghats of Banaras, yearning for a better life and future. The struggle was very well conveyed to the audience. And they remembered him as the Massan boy for a long time.
He worked with Anurag Kashyap in his psycho-thriller Raman Raghav 2.0 alongside Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Playing the role of a cop who is not naive and cocine-addicted was an image buster for the audience. And it was his great effort which made them accept him again, in this different role. His Manmarziyan look and commitment-phobic character was also again a completely different role.
His role in Meghna Gulzar's Raazi was also a very pivotal one. Although it was about Shemat essayed by Alia Bhatt but audience didn't forget to notice his role as her husband. He held his ground strongly and assertively and he has only eight dialogues in the movie.

His Netflix original Love Per Square Foot with Angira Dhar was lauded, it was also India's first Netflix original. Later his role in Karan Johar's Lust Stories was remembered very well from the audience.
