I miss me . the old me. the happy me. the bright me. the smiling me . the laughing me. the gone me. - healthyplace

“Ah! my knee is bleeding”, I cried in pain. As soon as my mother heard me screaming, she left all her work and came running towards me, to see whether, I was ok? She took me back home, did dressing to the injury as a first aid and then took me to a doctor. The doctor saw the injury and gave me medication in order to cure the same. I cameback home but then I realized that if a physical injury , as I was having was taken so seriously then ,why was my sister, said to be quite about the fact that she was sufferingfrom depression?

I DRANK TO DROWN THE PAIN, BUT THE DAMN PAIN LEARNED HOW TO SWIM

Depression is a form of mental illness. But the question is that, why mental illnessis considered a taboo? Why can’t people realize that if not treated it can be worse than any physical injury because gradually from time to time the situation would worsen up. The worst part for the person having a mental illness is that , most of times , not only others , even ,by his family members, he is told be quite or just to stop to pretend like “a victim” in order to gain attention. But ,is this the way to tackle a mental illness? Mental illness is not a problem that is incurable, it just needs emotional and behavioral support of loved ones. But in a country likes ours, a person suffering from it, is either locked up in a room or just being said by another person , that he will be fine , just leave him the way he is and to the surprise sometimes the victim is even referred to as a “spoilt- brat”. Just think, a spoilt brat? Wow, this can only in our country. As per the survey conducted by WHO, listing the name of the countries where the highest number ofdeaths were caused due to depression and mental illness , India was on the top , which was followed by China and USA.

Though the awareness about curing mental illness is increasing but still the taboo and the negative thinking prevails. The heavy stigma , lack of awareness and alsothe fear to be judged by relatives , family members and society keeps most of the people silent about the problem prevailing. They just keep quite and face the problem themselves which in turn worsens the situation. There are various types of mental illness, ranging from anxiety, persistent depressive disorder, stress, bipolar disorder, PTSD to psychotic depression, including the severity of the illness. It is usually caused, when a starts to hide feelings , the reason for hiding them could be many, ranging from the fear of losing someone or financial loss , loss of loved one and the “so”- “ called” “societal-prestige” at times.

Though the symptoms of depression are not very much elaborated but few of them includes the victim, having less energy and fatigue, reduced interest in being around people , insomnia or excessive sleepand even suicidal thoughts .There is a need for the society to understand that it is a phenomenon that happen to anyone, even one of those persons who was making fun of the person ,who was a victim of depression. So, why can’t we all understand that ,being in depression or a victim of mental injury doesn’t decide the kind of person you are or the way you would be treated. The most important cure to depression is the love and the care of his loved ones.

HAVING A MENTAL DISORDER ISN'T EASY , IT COMES WITH A PACKAGE : SHAME. WHEN ANY OTHER PART OF YOUR BODY GET'S SICK AT LEAST YOU GET SYMPATHY

Seriously, its high time people stop looking mental illness as taboo. People who go through it did not asked for it and it is really tough. I read it somewhere that when someone hires a gym trainer no one asks a question but when people go for therapy they are judged as if they are alien. This shows how metal health is overlooked as compared to physical health. I really appreciate your words.❤
