The Real Meaning Of Poverty

What is poverty? According to Wikipedia "the state of being inferior in quality or insufficient in amount” is referred to as poverty. What is meant by inferior in quality? 'being in low rank or in low position than others'. Does it really means that, or our way of understanding poverty is wrong?

No job is considered to be a low ranked job till the time you are earning your money in legal ways. Then what is the real meaning of poverty? Poverty is something created by our selfish actions, when we don’t make an effort to help others even though we are capable of helping them. We ourselves can conclude it, not helping others in the ways we can or working in a low paid job, what can be considered to be worse? You indifferent attitude towards the society creates inequality which leads to domination.

Being insufficient to make your ends meet doesn’t mean you are poor. Poverty lies in our actions, mind and thoughts. When you don't have heart to help others then you are suffering from the greatest poverty of all. We think being hungry and homeless is only poverty but being unwanted; unloved, uncared is the greatest poverty of all. As Gandhiji said "It’s enough for everyone's need but not for everyone's greed". It’s a hundred percent truth. It’s our greed which leads to poverty but we are blaming others for that. If you want to change the world and the society but we are not being the first one to start then change it around yourselves first.

When you are walking around the streets and looking at all the expensive items through the windows and secretly hoping to possess all of that someday, think about the kids who are hungry, homeless and out of all means looking out of the window or sitting on the middle of the street all the days without even enjoying their basic needs. We may talk and discuss a lot about it but its time to give some effort to bring a change in the society. Act rather than staring. We need to justify our word through our actions. So let us start acting towards it and let’s make this world a better place..
