Watching porn online and objectifying women is so prominently accepted and encouraged in India but when it comes to providing legal protection to sex workers, prostitution is then subjected to a 'sin' and is looked down upon with so much repugnance. But who gave us the right to question their freedom, dignity and their decision? Why is their body just a source of fulfillment to men's needs and not worthy enough for legalization? The whole concept of prostitution is rightful when it comes to a mere satisfaction to men's hunger but it is demeaned when talked about openly in public (I mean WOW).

Prostitution is legal in India (but male prostitution is still illegal in India. That's another debate -_-). But related activities like soliciting in a public place, kerb crawling, owning or managing a brothel, prostitution in a hotel, child prostitution, pimping are illegal.

India's largest and best-known (Funny how Wikipedia mentioned these places as best known) red-light districts are Sonagachi in Kolkata, Reshampura in Gwalior, Kamathipura in Mumbai and G.B. Road in New Delhi, that host thousands of sex workers. To give you a little instance of how sex workers are being treated in India, watch this video (Being a woman (and a human being), my heart was filled with anger, frustration, sympathy, and whatnot).

Prostitution is regarded as the oldest profession in the world since the time of the Mughal era. But is it regarded the same today? Hell No. You just saw a glimpse of how sex workers are being treated.

Now there are few people who are in support of legalizing prostitution and then there are those who are not in support of legalizing it. But according to me, prostitution should be legalized.

Sumit Chaturvedi, a graduate from Delhi University says, “I think prostitution should not only be legalized but also should be provided with an educational guarantee for the sex workers as well as their families. This would not only create awareness but also provide multi-fold opportunities to them.”

He says it in the best way. Prostitution legalization should be given an emergency call in India considering the rise in human trafficking and rapes because of illegal running brothels and red light districts. Legalization will lawfully determine the conditions under which prostitutes can operate. Legalized prostitution will be under the rigid control of the state-controlled system and will be accompanied by criminal penalties for anyone who disobeys the law prescribed. With legalization there may be rules about where prostitution can take place (for example only in state-licensed brothels), what prostitutes can do, mandatory registry/licensing and frequent mandatory health exams (Wikipedia).

But provisions for proper education for the sex workers and their family must be made so that they have a complete right to choose their profession on their own and not under the enforced inherited poverty running in the family since ages or lack of opportunities or compensatory act for paying debts to the owners/ pimps (human trafficking). Legalizing prostitution will also give an assurance that all the records of the sex workers will be recorded in the government records and unhealthy practices such as pimping will be considered illegal and hence shall be punishable under law.

Why do we look down upon to this with a disgust? I mean there is nothing bad if someone gets pleasure from sex. But your necessity isn't your dominance over their body.

They are girls, women, humans, not a slave. They also wear the same skin of dignity, have the right to speech, equality, right to freedom, right to education, respect- basically every right that every human deserves to have and should have but the genitals of a few (which are loads in number) discharge a threat of rape and continuous torture to the lives of those women who according to such men wear a tag '24hours available. Fulfill your needs and if yet not satisfied either rape me or put me on sale'.

If this didn't infuriate a rage within you to demand equality in this country and if not equality then maybe at least acceptance, then I don't what will?

So,

Will you ,as a society, accept prostitution?
