The word marital rape may be defined as “disagreeable intercourse done by a man on his wife obtained by force, threat of force or physical violence or when she is not in a proper state of mind to give consent for it.” The term ‘unwanted intercourse’ refers to all types of penetration whether vaginal, anal or oral, committed against the wife’s will or without her assent.

marital rapeis also known to many as "wife rape" is the term used to explain sexual acts committed without a person's consent and/or against a person's will, whether offender is the woman's husband or ex-husband. Some woman have been hurt in the past for not agreeing sexual intimidation from their husbands thus choosing to minimize the harm that could be done to herself by enduring as little as possible. When a woman relents to do sex out of fear or coercion, forcefully it is considered as rape but it is quite hard to believe that just 20 years ago no husband could be charged with raping his wife.

Marital rape has broadly been sub-divided into three categories, namely (1) rapes involving a degree of violence (2) Rape involving force only and (3) Sadistic rape in which in addition to actual rape, the victim is compelled to do acts delineate to further humiliate herself. It is also known as “obsessive rape” or pornographic rape.

A few parables from the past such as it was believed that when someone marries, assent to sexual intercourse is part of the marriage contract and that marital rape is not as serious and heinous as rape by a stranger. It has been simply laid down as a situation where it is just one spouse not being in the mood and the other spouse insisting to have sex. Another is that marital rape is simply one. Is it really just that simple?

rape is the most monstrous crime committed against women. It not only destroys a victim physically but also psychologically. It infects body as well as soul; the act of using and abusing a women’s body for sexual pleasure without her express or implied consent is offensive of not only individual’s dignity but also of the society as a whole. Its revolting to one’s thought that your body is being used forcefully for someone’s sexual pleasure. The notion of right to equality preserved in our constitution will remain as a dead letter if women of our country will not have any right over her own body and will not have any option of exercising their own choices as far as sexual relationship in marriage is concerned. It’s about woman’s integrity it’s their body not a utensil which will always be available so that one can eat their food on it.
