We are all aware of death, and we know it will come to us all. To many of us death brings a chill down our spine ridden with fear, but to others it is ridden with strength and satisfaction of accomplishment. Fortunately or unfortunately we are all condemned to death. However no one knows when exactly the inevitable will approach, but we all know it is inescapable.

We shall alldie. I am not trying to beapocalypticor something in my death essay; it is simply a statement of fact. Everyliving being diesin the long run; however, there are a lot of possibilities topostpone death. A man may live 20, 50, 80 or even 100 years; but no man can live, for example, 200 years. Thus, deathis foreseeable for all of us, and there is nothing we can do about it.

Itreat theinevitability of deathas yet another motivation to try and do as much as possible right now, for I know that the time of my life is limited and, no matter what actually awaits me after death, it would be something entirely different from what I am used to in life. There is no usethinking about deathall the time; but thinking about the limited nature of time is useful. From this perspective, the only thing every person may try to ensure is not to be ashamed of his life.

Life or Death You never know when the day will come when you are in a life or death situation.Death, it surrounds us; it could be waiting for us at any corner (whether it be a car swerving out of control, an acute allergic reaction, a nasty slip on ice...). We tend to try not thinking about it too much, but it's something inevitable, something we all eventually come to. I believe that pretty much everyone dreads it in one way or another. I also believe that this fear usually arises from the fear of the unknown.

For the strong followers of religion, there's always the question of what comes after death. Some accept that there's a placereserved for them up in the sky, others that they'll reincarnate. Frankly, I'm quite jealous of those people, since they have some resolution in what happens to them after this inevitable ending (or should I say new beginning for those strong believers?). But for those unsure about the events subsequent to our lives ending, such as myself, it can become quite a fearful thing.

I've often wondered about how I may move on from this world, asking myself questions such as: "will it hurt?" or "could it happen in my sleep?" The complete lack of control we have over our demise is what I trust to be another important factor in our fear of death. It's an unsolvable mystery for everyone one of us (until I invent the time machine anyway...).

What do you think - What happens when you die?
