Did you know, you can make your own pizza seasoning at home? It is so handy to have whenever you’re in the mood to have a pizza night – one of our favoritedinner recipes! You don’t need much- just a few ingredients! So dig around in your spice drawer or cabinet and look for the following herbs and seasonings:
Oregano is a flowering plant in the mint family. It is native to temperate Western and Southwestern Eurasia and the Mediterranean region.
Basil is a wide-leaf herb with a subtle sweet, peppery flavor with trace notes of mint, anise and clove, providing earthy, fresh essence.
Onion flaked in a dried form is used for seasoning in cooking. It is made from dehydrated onions, mainly the pungent varieties of bulb onions.
This is a great substitute for garlic cloves as it keeps for an extended period of time and has the same flavor.
Thyme has a fresh, smooth aroma and a lovely deep green color, which works well with the cheese on a pizza.
Dried fennel seeds are often used in cooking as an anise-flavored spice, and it works well with the marinara sauce on the pizza.
Paprika is a ground spice made from dried red fruits of the larger and sweeter varieties of the plant Capsicum annuum, called bell pepper or sweet pepper.
Black pepperis a flowering vine in the family Piperaceae. It is cultivated for its fruit which is dried and used as a spice and seasoning.
If you don’t have any of those, pick them up during your next grocery trip. You’ll be so happy that you prepared homemade pizza seasoning using the ingredients above, in advance. Package it in a cute little glass container and give it to someone with a jar of pizza sauce or a recipe for pizza crust!
