From Tacos to Tamales, it is hard not to love authentic Mexicancuisine. Feisty, vibrant and mysterious - these words define the land of Mexico. A mix of ethnic varieties and a vibrant history gives it a unique culinary culture. Mexico's cuisine has been blessed with numerous influences, ranging from the early civilization of the Aztecs and Mayas to modern European.

Here is a descriptive list of 10 Mexican dishes, which would definitely save you from the puzzlement, the next time you visit a Chili's or a Maquina.

1. Quesadilla

A Quesadilla, is a stuffed dish, consisting of a tortilla that is filled primarily with cheese, and sometimes meats, beans, vegetables, and spices, and then cooked on a griddle.

2. Enchilada

An Enchilada is a corn tortilla rolled around a filling and covered with a chili pepper sauce. Enchiladas can be filled with a variety of ingredients, including various meats, cheese, beans, potatoes, vegetables or combinations.

3. Tacos

A Taco is a traditional Mexican dish consisting of a corn or wheat tortilla folded or rolled around a filling. A taco can be made with a variety of fillings, including beef, pork, chicken, seafood, vegetables, and cheese, allowing great versatility and variety.

4. Burrito

A Burrito is a dish in Mexican and Tex-Mex cuisine that consists of a flour tortilla with various other ingredients. It is wrapped into a closed-ended cylinder that can be picked up, in contrast to a taco, where the tortilla is simply folded around the fillings.

5. Nachos

Nachos is a Mexican dish from northern Mexico that consists of heated tortilla chips or totopos covered with melted cheese, often served as a snack or appetizer. More elaborate versions of the dish add other ingredients, and may be substantial enough to serve as a main dish.

6. Fajita

A Fajita in Tex-Mex cuisine is any grilled meat that is served as a taco on a flour or corn tortilla. The term originally referred to skirt steak, the cut of beef first used in the dish. Popular meats today also include chicken and other cuts of beef, as well as vegetables instead of meat.

7. Guacamole

Guacamole is an avocado-based dip, spread, or salad first developed by the Aztecs in what is now Mexico. In addition to its use in modern Mexican cuisine, it has become part of international and American cuisine as a dip, condiment and salad ingredient.

8. Salsa

SalsaRoja, "red sauce", is used as a condiment in Mexican and Southwestern cuisines; usually includes cooked tomatoes, chili peppers, onion, garlic, and fresh cilantro (coriander).

9. Pozole

Pozole, which means "hominy", is a traditional soup or stew from Mexico. It is made from hominy, with meat, and can be seasoned and garnished with shredded lettuce, chile peppers, onion, garlic, radishes, avocado, salsa or limes. Pozole is typically served on New Year's Eve to celebrate the new year.

10. Tamale

A Tamale is made of masa or dough, which is steamed in a corn husk or banana leaf. The wrapping can either be discarded prior to eating, or be used as a plate, the tamale eaten from within.
