Perfection. Something I thought was non-existent till He walked in and made me different. He is the definition of perfection, but even that feels like an understatement.

Perfection is Holy. Perfection is blameless.
Perfection is humble and oh, so gracious.
Perfection is sacrificial, it is brave and kind.
Perfection has thoughts that are higher than the ones in your mind.
Perfection is a good shepherd, always at war with attacking beasts.
Perfection is a father, standing with you in your fights and feasts.
Perfection is a friend closer than a brother.
Perfection will comfort you like an old loving mother.
Perfection is pure. Perfection is flawless.
But perfection became human because the world became lawless.
Perfection felt so much sorrow that His sweat dripped down as blood.
Perfection prayed for strength with His knees buried in the mud.
Perfection felt so much anger that He flipped tables in His father's house.
Perfection remained silent like a lamb led to a slaughter house.
When I see perfection, I see scars and bruises
I see His bloody body trudge down the narrow path He chooses.
Perfection was wounded and broken
Betrayed, denied and His grief unspoken.
Perfection was also desperate, perfection also cried
But He still gave His life for me and on Calvary He died.
Perfection conquered the grave
All my sins, He forgave
He rose up, now seated in heaven’s glory.
Perfection, my friend, is not just some ancient story.
Above all, perfection is love.
Unconditional, life changing love.
And this perfect love casts out the fear of ever being imperfect
Of messing up, not being enough, of not striving to be perfect.
But this perfect love opens my eyes to see that I am my Creator’s reflection.
That I was made in the image of God.
Yes, I was made in the image of perfection.

The poem above is originally a spoken word piece. Here is why I was inspired to write this. Perfection, today, is defined as something complete and without fault. Something unrealistic and of excellent quality. There are a lot of people who strive to reach perfection. To be something that they think is faultless.

But as Christians, we have the best example of perfection, of what we need to strive to be like. Yes, we need to be more like Jesus, we hear that a lot. But who is Jesus? It is true that He is holy and blameless, did signs and wonders. But we often overlook the fact that He was human, too. He faced struggle and temptation. He was heartbroken, abandoned. He did have emotions, He did want to give up. But how He pressed on, hoping in His father. How He chose to obey and not sin. How He was selfless and loving. That is perfection. So, if we were made in His image then why do we fear that we aren’t enough? He loves us with a love so perfect that it casts out all fear of imperfection. Because of His sacrifice and His unconditional love, we were created, perfectly. We are chosen, perfectly. We are loved, perfectly.
