You haven’t read any books other than your textbooks, have you? Then Sweetie, you are at the right place! Welcome! Here’s a way to a new world:

1) Initially find out the 'why'
Know the purpose of reading the book or the reason behind developing this hobby. Don’t just start reading some random book. You won’t stick for too long even if the book’s good as it won’t serve your purpose.

2) Then Find out what interests you :
You must have a basic knowledge of the genres that are available commonly and also the rare ones. Accordingly, match it with your purpose and your interest. Like for example, you might have started reading to get inspired and thus are searching for motivational books but you are not amongst those who like to sit and listen to a lecture and so you need a story and some humor component in it. So you need to search the book accordingly.

3) No interest(Sadly no bank comes with this tagline! )
If you are unable to figure out your interests; in order to zero in on any book you will need help from your friends or simply look for suggestions on the internet from good websites. (Relying on friends would be preferable as they would have atleast read the book to guide you properly). If none of the above works for you then read a book that is beneficial for your profession or mental health, etc.

4) Get a brief idea :
Before you start reading the book, get a brief idea about the content so that you are sure of the fact that this will satisfy your ‘reading’ buds! And you would also know where exactly are you investing your time.

5) Attention span
This is for the ones who cannot go beyond 2 pages at a stretch and also readers who want to increase their attention span. What you all can do is if your reading capacity is just 2 pages then aim to finish 3 pages in one go and then take a break. Then 4 pages, then 5 and so on.

6) Work on your pace
You don’t read a novel like how you read your textbooks. In detail, word to word! No! Until and unless you want to improve your vocabulary, grammar, etc. or gain some specific information out of it. Learn the skill of skipping and scanning, it will be very helpful. Set a target number of pages that you would cover everyday within a specific time.

Gradually increase the number of pages to increase the pace.

7) Remind yourselves :
Incase you are struggling to finish the book and wish to give up then remind yourselves the reason why you started reading it in the first place. If the book is super boring or tortorous, then my friend close that book and look for some other book to read!

Reading is a habit that one must cultivate. It helps you in various ways.. in your conversations, improves vocabulary, gain knowledge, etc.

Happy reading! :)
