As we all know that World Environment Day is on June 5. Therefore an important matter which needs to be discussed is Air Pollution. Over the past few years, the air has become almost unbreathable and has lead to many problems in human life. Gone are the days when people used to get clean and pollution free air and could breathe happily. They did not have to purchase masks to wear when they used to step outside neither they had to purchase air purifiers in order to clean the air inside. All thanks to the humans who have with their activities polluted the air to such an extent that now people, as well as the governments, have to take various initiatives and steps to make the air cleaner and more breathable. Though some natural factors including forest fires and volcanic eruptions also contribute to air pollution the major harm is caused by human activities, mining, and construction activities to name a few.

Air pollution is the situation when the level of pollutants such as smoke and dust rises to such an extent that they start hampering the lives of people. The people already suffering from lung diseases, those in their old age and the infants are rigorously affected. If the current situation isn’t controlled, the coming years will be dangerous for us as well as the younger generations, causing great threats to all living beings. Now the question arises as to how to control this ever-growing air pollution and control it as soon as possible.

The most important step that one should take to contribute to reducing air pollution is to plant a tree. We all know that plants and trees purify the air around them and give oxygen. One should make the habit of planting at least one tree on one’s birthday. This way it will not only help in reducing air pollution but will give a sense of happiness to the person. This was a way to reduce air pollution. What if we don’t allow pollution to generate? Choosing a wise way to commute like carpooling or using public transportation, avoiding burning leaves, trash, setting the temperature of AC at 24 degrees are various ways to reduce air pollution. Also giving the students proper education as to how to reduce air pollution can make a great impact as they are tomorrow’s torchbearers.

Everyone knows what all problems the world is facing today because of increasing air pollution day by day. Recent surveys have shown Delhi and Mumbai among the most polluted cities across the globe. We only have an option to reduce air pollution levels and then maintain the controlled levels to increase the chances of survival of the human race. If today also we keep on relying on the government to take the required steps, we are only paving the way for a more polluted environment. Therefore we should stop blaming others and take a pledge to make this world a better place to live in. And it is not that difficult as we think of it. Taking a few small steps regularly can surely bring tremendous changes and eventually increase the quality of air so that everyone gets a cleaner environment to live in. In the end, the only message that is to be given is “Be a part of the solution and not part of the pollution." What measures do you think that should be taken to reduce air pollution?
