"If you hear a voice within you say 'you cannot paint,' then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced."-Vincent Van Gogh

Everyone knows now-famous dutch post-impressionist painter Vincent Van Gogh but very few know his story. You'll be startled when I'll tell you Vincent Van Gogh had only sold one of his artwork in his entire course of life that is THE RED VINEYARD and to give in information, he has created more than 2000 pieces of art, also he began painting at the age of 27 and died at the age of 37. In just one decade, the man created more than two thousand pieces, which certainly is very surprising, to begin with.

Vincent was born to an upper-middle-class Dutch family and he was given the name of his grandfather, he was close to his younger brother Theo and records tell us that he wrote about 663 letters to his brother.

At the age of 27 in July 1880 Vincent wrote:
"There may be a great fire in our soul, but no one ever comes to warm himself by it, all that passers-by can see is a little smoke coming out of the chimney, and they walk on."

Vincent had a tough time, he was undiscovered and unappreciated. He received financial aid from his brother. Today one of Van Gogh's most well-known painting The PORTRAIT OF DOCTOR GACHET (Doctor Gachet was Van Gogh's physician) was sold within 3 minutes in an auction for $82.5 million (U.S.) to Ryoei Saito, Japan's second-largest paper manufacturer on 15 May 1990.

Van Gogh struggled with a lot of mental illnesses like frequent episodes of depressions, paralyzing anxiety, bipolar disorder, Borderline personality disorder, etc. "I put my heart and my soul into my work, and have lost my mind in the process."-Vincent Van Gogh.

Van Gogh voluntarily admitted himself at Saint-Paul Asylum as he struggled a lot with his mental health. While in the asylum he painted a few of his famous paintings such as IRISES, THE STARRY NIGHT, CYPRESSES, etc. The Starry Night is one of the most well-known painting but Van Gogh wasn't as pleased by his painting as we all are today.

Vincent Van Gogh committed suicide by shooting himself in the stomach and he died on 29 July 1890.

Vincent Van Gogh was an excellent artist and he is known for his artworks around the world. Van Gogh had a rough life and didn't achieve recognition in his lifetime but today everyone has pure respect for his creations and his paintings couldn't be appreciated in words. Vincent Van Gogh was not just a great artist but also an incredible writer and a passionate person.
