Jerusalem is the city located in the Middle East. It is located between the Mediterranean and the Dead Sea. The history of Jerusalem is filled with controversies and conflicts. Jerusalem is the disputed capital of Israel and Palestine. Jerusalem significance stands from the fact that it is a homeland of three major pilgrimage site of three major religions in the world, i.e. Christianity, Judaism & Islam.
The Jews consider Jerusalem as a holy site because of the first temple of Solomon, which contained the ark of the covenant. In simple language ‘word of god’. For Christians, the Jerusalem is the place where the Jesus Christ was crucified and to the Muslims, in Jerusalem, there’s a mosque called Al-Aqsa which is considered to be the third holiest mosque after Mecca and Madina. They believe this site is Muhammad’s revelation and ascent to heaven.

A crusader map of the thirteenth century places Jerusalem at the centre of the map. There are many people who tried to explain the religious significance of the city through several theories. One of the theory talks about ley lines. Ley lines are nothing but geometrical connections or global alignments of sacred and natural features. For some people, the spirituality of Jerusalem is because of these ley lines, which connects the temple mount, the pyramids of Giza and the mecca. Also, it is said the pattern of construction in Jerusalem defines a pentagram, this shape is considered holy in the bible since it represents the five wounds of Jesus.
Jerusalem is said to be attacked 52 times, captured 44 times and almost destroyed at least 2 times throughout history. However, the history of Jerusalem is not only about war and hatred. There are many examples of religious tolerance. Jerusalem first Muslim ruler refused to convert the holy church of sepulchre into a mosque. He also protected his Christian subjects. It is also said that when Muslim came to find the spot for Al-Aqsa mosque, Jews helped them to find it. Even though there are many disputes going on, the Israelis and Arabs have found a way to co-exist. Here are some interesting facts of Jerusalem I have noted down below.
-It is said that the Jewish people are living in Jerusalem for more than 3000 years
-The first mention of Jerusalem is not in the Bible but Execration texts of Egypt, which is 3,800 years ago.
-Jerusalem have more than 2000 active archaeological sites currently
-Some of the olives trees in Jerusalem is more than 800 years old.
-When Neil Armstrong visited Jerusalem he said “ I am more excited stepping on these stones than I was stepping on the moon”
