India is the world's largest democracy. Democracy is the systemt in which actual power is vested on the citizen of the country .17th Lok Sabha election was held. The 2019 Indian general election was held in seven phases from 11 April to 19 May 2019 to constitute the 17th Lok Sabha. The election schedule was announced on 10 March 2019, and with it, the Model Code of Conduct came into force The counting of votes took place on 23rd May, and on the same day, the results were declared. India has 29 states and 7 union territories. The election was held for 543 seats in which candidates for542 seats were declared. Citizen of the country has a huge responsibility as their choice will govern the future and growth of the country .
The Election would decide the prime minister of the country for the next 5 years. The President of India nominates an additional two members from the Anglo-Indian community. India is a multi-party system.There are various regional ,national parties like BJP,Congress,TRS,TMC,AAP,BJD,Janta Dal.Different parties hold different ideologies. The Bharatiya Janata Party won 303 seats and the BJP-led alliance won 353 seats. Congress party won 52 seats, and the Congress-led alliance won 92. Other parties and their alliances won 97 seats in the Indian parliament. This was regarded as the historic victory for the BJP.In order to become the official opposition party in the Lok Sabha, a party must win at least 10 per cent of the total number of seats, or 55 seats in the current parliament. The largest opposition party, the Indian National Congress, once again failed to attain this number as it has 52 seats only. In the few cities, the results were unexpected like in Amethi, Mathura etc. In states like Haryana, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, GujaratBJP acquired all the seats of that state. The state assembly of Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Andhra Pradesh was also formed. Legislative Assembly elections were held simultaneously with the general election. Election commission played an active in conducting the free and impartial election.EVM, VVPAT played a significant role.NOTA Vote was maximum in states like Bihar and minimum in states like Sikkim. The no of the vote casted for NOTA has been reduced from 1.08% to 1.04%. This is an indication that more citizen is gaining trust in governance . No of Voters have also increased.
