More often than not, we take things for granted. We fail to realize how blessed and lucky we are. We often aren’t thankful for all the good things that life has given and instead complain that we don’t have this, we don’t have that etc. We never take time off our busy days to be thankful for what we have, we don’t just stop to think that, what we take for granted could be of extreme significance for someone. Many people overfill their plates with food and just throw it away without giving a second thought about the millions of hungry and starving people and seemingly do so, without any sort of regret. A lot of us feel that just because we paid for it, its ours which shouldn’t be the case. Food and water are the basic necessities of life and many people aren’t privileged enough to afford them. So, if you can afford food and water, without a second thought consider yourself to be blessed. So, I urge you, next time before throwing away food or wasting water, please do give it a second thought.

Most of us take our education and jobs for granted. All of us are extremely selfish and hence we think only from our point of view. We fail to think from the point of view of the people who belong to the other side of the spectrum. There are millions of kids who want to go to school to educate themselves but are sent off to do some labor work, in order to earn some extra cash, to support their family’s basic needs. We cry about having homework and having to study, but there are millions of kids who dream of going to school and getting a stable enough source of income to help their families to lead a bare minimum and comfortable life. So is the case with many adults too. A lot of us don’t like our jobs and think that it’s too hard and complain about this and that, but think about those parents who just want to give their kids some food, water and want to put a roof over their head and give them the basics to live, let alone lead a comfortable one. The next time before you complain about your life, remember that God is sacrificing someone else’s dream to give you a comfortable life.

Can I also go to school?

When I was small, my mother used to tell me a story about a family. The kids wanted to go for a movie and the parents gave money to the eldest kid and told him to buy snacks for everyone as he was the eldest and stereotypically the most responsible. However, his ego was inflated and he decided to buy snacks only for himself, while the others watched him eat and fill his stomach. This story can be related to real life where God is the parent and the eldest kids are us who are privileged enough to live a comfortable life. He expects us to be responsible and help out those in need (the younger siblings in this story). If all of us help out the poor ones, in whatever little way we can, then the world will become a much better place.

On a side note, I am working with this NGO called ‘Muskurahat Foundation’. They work for the education of the underprivileged kids and they are doing a phenomenal job.

If any of you are interested, you can help them out by making a donation and spreading the word so that it reaches as many people as it can. Even a small amount of money which seems insignificant to you may be of great help to those kids.

It reminds me of the quote which I came across in the past- "Somewhere in the planet, there is a man dreaming the life you are living in right now"
