Thanks to streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu that now watching television shows has become a popular pastime among people. But you may or may not know that most of the famous shows we have watched or heard about, have come out of the pages of some best-selling novels. So if you want to go deeper into your favourite television show, you might as well read the books.

#1 - GAME OF THRONES

Fans of Game Of Thrones already know that their favouite show is based on George R.R Martin's novel. The Song Of Ice And Fire. The first season is written from the first book of this series, Game Of Thrones which was releaseed in 1996. The writers of the show have made several changes in the story after season 1 but the plot is more or less original. George R.R. Martin still played a role of producer on the show.

Also, the prequel series to Game Of Thrones, based on history of these events, will be released sometime next year.

#2 - SHERLOCK

Sherlock Holmes is a fantasy detective created by the novelist Arthur Conan Doyle in 1887.

His first Sherlock Holmes story 'A Study In Scarlet' got published in 1887. Then starting in 1891, a series of Holmes appeared in the Strand Magazine, and Conan Doyle was able to give up his medical practice to devote himself to writing.

Another interesting thing is that the novelist Arthur Conan Doyle, and the actor who plays Sherlock in the show, Benedict Cumberbatch are actually related. Ancestor researchers made a discovery that Benedict and Arthur share common ancestory.

#3 - HOUSE OF CARDS

Many fans know that the Netflix show, House Of Cards spun out of the 1990 BBC series of the same name. What the fans may not have realised is that this show is based on the 'House Of Cards' trilogy by Michael Dobbs which was first published in 1989.

#4 - 13 REASONS WHY

This show, predominantly popular among teens, tackles a sensitive topic of teen suicide. The show is based on the 2007 young adult novel of the same name, written by Jay Asher.

Tv series mostly stay true to the novel, writers expanded upon the relationships between the main characters, extended the timeline, and also used modern technology like smartphones.

#5 - ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK

Now, running its sixth season, the popular Netflix show Orange Is The New Black is based upon the memoir of Orange is The New Black: My Year In A Women's Prison by Piper Kerman. While they share the same name, the TV series is only loosely based upon the book—everything from the backstory of other characters to Piper’s own escapades are pure fiction.

#6 - OUTLANDER

TheOutlandertelevision series is based on Diana Galbadon’sbest selling series of the same name which launched in 1991. Both the books and series feature a mix of historical fiction, romance, drama, and mystery, intertwined with science fiction. The series has released four seasons thus far.
