Despite being considered a highly commercial field, choosing a career in media, apart from journalism, has not known much liberty over the years. Although the main thing that is causing these restrictions is the fear of staying in the struggling stage and its insecurity, one other thing that has arisen the skepticisms is that it doesn't hold much responsibility. People have this misconception that working as a content creator or in a similar field in media, does not have as much of a responsibility towards the society or the nation or the world, as much as other jobs do.
Well, here's the truth: media is a field with just as much responsibility as any other field… maybe even more.
A part of this realization came from a personal experience. Growing up through school years I developed a love for writing, and later for filmmaking. And when events like the elections or a scientific discovery or achievement used to happen, or we heard of a feat achieved by the military, I used to wonder if I was making a strong choice by opting to be a content creator, as opposed to jobs with such huge responsibilities that are making such huge differences in the world.
Though that thought never made me want to change my decision, it was still present in my mind somewhere. Then, over the passing time I observed some things. I saw people wanting to take up professions because they had watched that profession being portrayed in a movie or a show and it had had an impact on them. I saw media bringing forth the necessary awareness: the awareness of mental illnesses, the awareness of the LGBTQ community's rights, the awareness about how important things like casting your vote are or how tough it is for the armed forces to achieve a feat. And all of it, through the content media; the media that contains movies, TV shows, novels.
I saw that the media shapes the world. It shapes the thinking of people. And that's what makes content media a field with just as much responsibility as any other field.
