There is much truth in saying 'Necessity is the Mother of Invention'. Ever since the advent of man in the universe, has been in pursuit of something to satiate his needs. It was in order to satisfy his hunger, that he took to hunting wild animals. His desire to eat wholesome food, led to the discovery of fire and food grains. The necessity of protecting his body from the scourging heat and the inclemencies of weather, led him to cover his body with fur and subsequently with fabrics, made from cotton or wool.
The journey of mankind has been a voyage in the pursuit of satisfying his needs and wants. No sooner has one need been satisfied, than it gives birth to a whole plethora of other needs. Thus what may have started of as sign language to communicate, gave rise to communication through language. This then led to recording of communication, through the evolution of alphabets. Even to day we are seeing this need being addressed through the electronic media, telephone, cellular telephone. Satellite phones and the Internet. Now we are attempting to integrate all these mediums, so that no matter where we areand what we are doing, we can always be in touch with our homes or offices. Thus we see, how our desire to do something new to meet our ever - increasing needs, has been the cause of stupendous development in the field of communication. This has been the case in all other spheres of life like transport which include road, rail, aeroplane and a host of consumer goods. All these luxuries make the world a wonderful place to live in.
In the field of medicine and health care, it has led to discover of newer and more effective ways of curing diseases, that were hitherto considered to be incurable. Diseases like cancer have been successfully treated by Chemotherapy and Radium treatment, while heart and other coronary diseases are now effectively treated with surgery. Even in our daily lives we observe the universal truth of this statement, when we find newer and more efficient ways of doing things.
It is this relentless endeavour to strive for satisfying our needs, that makes us discover something new which adds spice to our life. Had nature put everything to us on a platter, life would have indeed been very eventless, doing nothing and consequently, achieving nothing.
