Here is a Russian tale which goes like this-
A farmer finds a magic lamp. He rubs it, and out of thin air appears a genie, who promises to grant him a wish. The farmer thinks about this for a little while. Finally, he says; 'My neighbour has a cow and I have none. I hope that his drops dead.' As ridiculous as it sounds, we all admittedly relate to the farmer on some level. To be honest, a parallel thought has occurred in our minds at some point in our lives.

Envy is the most silly and disposable of all in the vast spectrum of human emotions. And yet, it happens to be common in human life; be it in the workplace or in the home sphere. However, we can avoid it with the following simple steps-

  1. Avoid comparing yourself to anyone else. You are a unique amalgamation of chromosomes which simply cannot be replicated. There is something you have got going which no one else does. So make full use of that uniqueness!

  2. Build your own great life story. Live the moments. Every day. Every Month. And evry year.

  3. Actively question whenever jealousy arises in your mind. Question its usefulness- 'Will this help me in any way?' The answer will always be NO.

  4. Understand that while everyone's lives might appear rosier than yours, it really is not. Everyone we know is facing problems we do not even know of. So, be kind, Always.

  5. Also realise that envy decreases individual productivity. It is a legitimately bad distraction we simply cannot afford to have in such a fast, progessrive world.

Life is beautiful, short and totally unpredictable. So do not waste it wishing for something or the other. Count your blessings and stay your jolly self!
