After the termination of Lok Sabha election( I mentioned it purposely), a new issue took birth in Kolkata. An 85 year old man died of multiorgan failure in a renowned Medical institution in Kolkata. As soon as medical representatives informed the news of passing away to his near ones, they were severely broken which is quite obvious. But the most shocking was, few trucks loaded with people arrived at the institution, forcibly broke into the campus andattacked brutally on the doctors, leaving some dangerously injured. Why? Because they are responsible for "killing" a person who died with multi-organ failures. And in the meantime, adoctor, who was carrying out his internship in the department, was hit by a brick so hard that his skull got a serious dent! This is humanity!

Last few years, reports of violence against doctors, sometimes leading to grievous hurt or murder, are making headlines across the world including India. However, this menace has not been highlighted adequately. Whether the increase in reporting of violence truly represents a real increase in the prevalence of the condition or just represents increased awareness in the era of electronic mass media and improved telecommunication system needs further assessment.

Violence against doctors or other medical fraternity hardly made any news, or hardly there was discussion about this in India in medical journals about a decade back as they were probably infrequent though such violence in western countries was known. My question is, if you cannot trust doctors, then why are you even visiting a hospital? Keep that believe in your humanity if that can actually "cure" from the diseases.

Secondly that I would like to highlight here is Political influence. Politics never interested me but entertained me with fun facts. It's kind of a 'blame game' to reduce the load from one's shoulders. Everytime there's a chaos, before settling the matters, political parties start blaming each other to prove the mass who's guilty! No matter which political community is in power, blame game continues. Even after such a brutal act of common mass ( I mean the people who attacked the doctors) none of the political leaders stood beside the injured doctors or took anyquick action to condemn this act. So all the students of the medical community- the attacked institution along with other institution, including people from INDIAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION was a part of this protest against violence on doctors by placing the only request to the government for providing enough security to the people who are studying to save lives!

Dr Rajan Sharma, the president-elect of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) said that the violence against doctors is not at all acceptable in any civilised society. The protest was however successful with the state government agreeing to the facts and promising to fulfill their requirements. IMA is so fearful that they have decided to provide self defense training and many medical institutions have already started with this.

When I observe people around my society, I can feel that development has been carried out in infastructure and materialistic growth that develops a city, but not humanity as a whole. Until and unless we kill that inhumane attitude of ours within ourselves, we can never build a better tomorrow,no matter how much development the city we live in undergoes. It's always better to think before taking any action.
