About Lohagad

The Lohagad Fort is also known as Iron Fort, this is a historical fort situated along the Sahyadri hills in Lonavala region of Maharashtra. This fort is one of the best tourist places to visit in Lonavala as well as the most popular historical places in Maharashtra. Shivaji Maharaj used lohagad for keeping his treasury.

This fort is designed in the shape of the tail of a scorpion. You can reach is the fort from any of its four entrances, namely Maha Darwaja, Ganesh Darwaja, Hanuman Darwaja, and Narayan Darwaja. You can visit Shiv temple and Laxmi Kothi (caves which were used to store loot from Surat).

How to reach lohagad

From Lonavala Lohagad is at a distance of 11 km , from Pune is at 66km & from Mumbai is at 111km, the Lohagad Fort is a situated along the Sahyadri hills in Lonavala region of Maharashtra. If you are at Lonavala Station then take a local train towards Pune and alight at Malavli Station from there either you can take a sharing auto to Lohgadwadi Village or else Walking.

You can take Malavli as a base of this trek, which is around 7 km from Lohagad. It is a simple, very scenic and pleasant trek and the distance from Malavli and Lohagad can be covered in three hours. If you are on a picnic then you can drive a car till base rather than trek. You can also cover Bhaje caves.
