Social Media - A Good Thing Or A Bad Thing?

At present time, a large number of internet users have joined social networking websites. A social network service is an outline service, platform, or site that focuses on building and reflecting of social networks or social relations among people. A social network service essentially consists of a representation of each user which often as a profile, his or her social links, and a variety of additional services. Social networking sites have different rules for establishing connections, but they often allow users to view the connections of a confirmed connection and even suggest further connections based on a person’s established network.

Most social network services are web based and provide means for users to interact over the internet such as e-mail and instant messaging. Online community services are sometimes are considered as a social network service. In broader sense,social network service usually means an individual-centered service whereas online community services are group centered. Social networking sites allow users to share ideas, activities, events, interests, etc within their individual networks.

In the last 5 years, social websites have been growing up more and more as growing of mushroom. The increase in their popularity has led to a large number of members. The number of internet users worldwide in 2018 is 4.021 billion, number of social media users worldwide in 2018 is 3.196 billion, up 13 percent year-on-year and number of mobile phone users in 2018 is 5.135 billion, up 4 percent year. Let us know about the different social networking websites such as Facebook, Instagram, Viber, Snapchat, LinkedIn,Twitter,etc,. which have earned popularity due to the fact that they cover a wide variety of different topics, issues and interests. They do not just focus on one particular group of individuals or particular issue. There are various pros and cons of social network. Social networking has changed the way we communicate, do business, get our daily news fix and so much more. Evaluating any positive or negative aspects for social networks, depends on who you talk to and how you're using it. One of the most obvious pros of using social networks is the ability to instantly reach people from anywhere. Wherever we go we are in touch with everyone, we don't need to answer through landline, mailing machines. We can simply open our laptop,smartphone and start communicating with anyone on different platforms like Facebook and other many social messaging applications. Also we can use it for general fun and enjoyment by watching pictures, videos in free time.

Talking about cons, social network has mainly affected to teenagers. They are just addictive to social networks, they waste hours staying online. Social networks have diverted attention from an activity that a child is supposed to be focusing on, such as study, sporting commitments or assignments. Other than this, privacy issue is also a problem. Nowadays, Most of the people have used the social media platform to propose and marry each other. However, after some time they turn to be wrong in their decision and part ways. The excess usage of social media can also have a negative impact on the health. The excess use can bring disorders in the routine life.

Social media was created to help people maintain connections, network, and obtain information.Recently, almost everybody has at least one account on a social networking website. Even people that have little desire to see the thoughts and opinions of hundreds of “friends” find themselves creating accounts. This is because nobody wants to be left behind in our fast-paced, advancing world of technology. Social media can be a great tool if used correctly, but more often than not, people misuse and abuse it. We have lots of positive impacts, simultaneously, negative effects of social media outweigh the positive. Social media is, and will continue to be, harmful, unless something is done about it. Social media stunts interpersonal growth and increases narcissism in many internet users. Directly or indirectly everyone connected with social networking websites are in danger.
