Terrorism - A New Paradigm

This exposition intends to provide a new paradigm to the way terrorism stimulates our conscience. Terrorism now does not only remain as a nefarious menace subliming mankind but has gained a broader momentum. It has scaled to an extent of undermining the security and stability of a nation, compromising the world of its psychic and economic sanctum in today’s time. To protrude above this dusk of quietus governments throughout the whole world have galvanized into actions by passing laws relevant to counter terrorism and their connected activities. Cause terrorism must be looked upon in its most undeserving nature. Introduction

As per think tanks “terrorism is the unlawful use of force or violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives. It targets ethnic or religious groups, governments and political parties, corporations, and media enterprises“. But in recent times the term ‘terrorism’ has become quite ambiguous in its meaning. Once we fizzle down the history lanes, we understand that such atomic acts of violence has been excused in the past, talking in context of revolutions for freeing a country. And the colonial era is a manifestation of the same. To suffice personal interests, the colonial masters subdued upon their subjects centuries of misery, inhumane conditions, atrocities and slavery. With the advent of the modern era, this dark diaspora of terrorizing the populace got termed as chapter of human evolution.

This dilemma calls for a trail towards a new perspective. Terrorism was initially seen as a war against the rule, but now this principal metaphor has shifted from war to heinous crime. This means that organizations such as Al-Qaeda and ISIS should be perceived as sinner outfits. This stands on the virtue that no religion known to humanity advocates killing of innocents.

The order committed in the name of God/religion or for a certain political goal pretends to serve as a sectarian belief in order to help those deprived of their basic human rights by the state. Terrorist have killed people of all nationalities professing different faith and coming from any social backgrounds. The terrorist aim is “end justifies means” at whatever cost may be inflicted to human lives and sufferings.

Given the intensity, terrorism today does not have its reins driven only by material gain, dissatisfaction from state, propaganda and tainted religious views. It has become an ideology, and a fundamental so brawny that it forges the mental strata of its beholder. Of course one can’t be in a state of oblivion when he/she pledges their life for a cause, and a motive so inhumane. But taking a glance at recent catastrophes few indubitable motions emerge. Is not the lack of education a losing ground? Not able to provide means of sustainability and opportunities to the young populace is also a reason why terrorism is still breeding. Adding further, lack of ethics and valuing personal virtues over community sense helps this terror pages prevail. These fundamentalist (read terrorists) believe that until the mass starts believing in totality, they can continue with their purpose. In this world-view, terror outfits have their absolute certainties, while we are sunk in sybaritic indulgences.
