Heroes In Real

Whenever we hear the word 'hero', we by default picture Superman beating enemies of the planet. All those fictional characters pop up to our mind who always do everything right, always arrive on the right time at right place and save all the ‘ordinary' people stuck up in any trouble. These superheroes have set the benchmark so high as they always put others before themselves and never think twice before putting their own lives in danger to save anyone. But surely this type of people don't exist in the real world, right? Well, there are many who showcase heroism in their daily lives and work selflessly without any recognition. They are even many who did their minor part, knowingly or unknowingly, and saved humanity to a large scale.

• Working for 40 Years, Kerala’s 85 years old Kollakkayil Devaki Amma grew a lush green forest spread over 5 acres all by herself. With a couple of private ponds, a wetland and animals like cows, buffalos and oxen, one can even find world's exotic birds over there. She has even received the prestigious Nari Shakti Puruskar by our honourable President.

• Anandibai Joshi opened the gates for Indian women who wanted to be more than just housewives and became the first female doctor from India and South Asia at the time when it was so difficult for women to even step out of the kitchens.

• Venkatraman once met a woman who was admitted to a government hospital because she could not afford dinner. Since then Venkatraman decided to start serving lunch for just one rupee.

• Babar Ali being from a poverty stricken family opened up his own school for underprivileged children and earned the title of “Youngest Headmaster “at the age of 16 by BBC in 2009.

• Mamta Rawat, a victim of 2013 Uttarakhand floods, climbed tough terrains to save thousands of stuck pilgrims and locals without any government support.

• We all know about The Missile Man of India but I bet, 99% of us do not know about The Missile Woman of India. It is Dr. Tessy Thomas who became the first woman scientist to head any missile project( Agni-4) in India.
