"A woman, a dog and a walnut tree — the harder you beat them, the better they be. "

With time society is awaking to its responsibility towards women. It is ironical that in a land where Goddesses are worshipped, the crime rate against women is high. Thus various agencies and organisations have come up to raise the issue of women's dignity, protection and rights. Mahila Courts, family courts and various NGOs are now supporting the women's cause and are working for women.

Violence against women can be categorised under three headings of
1. Criminal violence as rape, abduction, or murder.

2. Domestic violence which includes dowry deaths, wife battering, sexual abuse, maltreatment of widows or elderly woman

3. Lastly, social violence which includes forcing of a wife or daughter in law to go for female foeticide, eve teasing, refusing to give a share to women in property, harassing a woman for any cause.

The police research bureau, Delhi divides crime against woman under two categories
1.crimes under the indian penal code and times and 2.crimes under local and special laws. Under the Indian penal code (IPC) are put seven crimes such as rape, kidnapping, abduction, homicide for dowry, physical as well as mental torture, molestation and eve teasing. Forcing for sati, harassment for dowry, immoral traffic and Indecent representation of women fall under the second category of crime under local and special laws.

Considering the cases of violence against women we see that most of the time the woman who feel helpless and depressed have a poor self-image, who are emotionally vulnerable ,who live in stressful family situations, who live in sociological abnormal families ,who lack social maturity or who lack social interaction skills or whose husbands are alcoholic etc are the ones susceptible to violence and easy victimization. In fact, women are abused and victimized mostly by men they know. A study reveals that 61% of women are abused by their own family members and only 39% by strangers. Even out of that 61%, 72% of them face abuse and violence at the hands of their husbands or by men they know well and that too in places they consider as safe. It turns that marital homes are not always that safe as they are thought to be. According to survey report since 1990-94 against women have been constantly increasing every year. Broadly speaking, there are about 11000 rapes, 21000 cases of molestation, 12000 cases of kidnappings, or abduction, 20,000 cases of torcher, 10,000 cases of eve teasing, and 5000 cases of dowry deaths being reported each year. The statistics are alarming and shocking. One must remember that these are the reported cases.

In our society, the women who break down barriers are those who ignore limits.
Neither man nor woman is perfect or complete without the other. People forget that " marriage or family, no ward or stake is likely to reach its full potential until husbands and wives, mothers and fathers, men and women work together in unity of purpose, respecting and relying upon each other's strengths.

A person cannot be a parrot as in the house of history, he cannot listen and repeat the same crap over and over.So women should not be considered to practice this. They are those nightingales, who not only sing melodious verses but also possess the art of being a lyricist. They write the story of life in such an astounding manner in the book of their hard work, which is really appreciable. They not only bring lives on earth, they also create lives.

So lastly it could be said..
Women are the largest untapped reservoir of talent in the world.
