2019 saw the clash of the titans between the Modi Sarkar and the Gandhi led Congress in which the NDA won with a landslide vote thus creating history. Narendra Modi sat on the election throne when the millennials were only recovering from the disappointing season finale of the Game of Thrones.

For the late 90s born this election was crucial, this election was important for them than it was for any other generation, this was the election they get to play a role in deciding the fate of the nation, for the first time. It was exhilarating, the power in our hands, in the hands of the leaders of tomorrow.

BUT!
Whom should we vote for?
On one hand we had the love child of dynastic politics and on the other the leader of Hindu fanaticism. On one hand we had the blood history of past scams – Bofors scam, 2G spectrum scam, Chopper scam, Commonwealth scam etc. and on the other we had Gau rakshaks brigade, the rising Hindu nationalism, the history of mass violence in Gujrat, the rising Hindu Muslim divide.

If one makes this choice based on the achievements of their local candidates then too the decision doesn’t seem to simplify much considering many of them had either criminal records or are simply opportunists who got elected the last time but never set foot into the parliament or maybe are simply local actors trying to earn some extra bucks.

As the leaders of tomorrow are we aware enough? Do we know our candidates? Are we willing to read up the party manifestos before casting our vote? As we all know, ‘with great power comes great responsibility’ but perhaps our generation has a particular distaste for politics which fuels our lack of knowledge at the eve of casting our vote.

So what other choice do you have?
NOTA
Is NOTA better than voting for a non-deserving candidate or is it simply wasting your vote?
So there you have, the dilemma of ‘to vote or not to vote’ .
