They were about to refuse her, but she had disappeared. ‘Where is she’ the old man asked. ‘I told you we couldn’t believe people here.’ They both moved towards the well to fetch water.

Garang hung the rope over the pully, and slid the bucket down, he peered down into the well carefully, he saw shadows of many people in the well, the rope slipped from his hands, his breath became fast. The older man ran towards the well and caught hold of the line. ‘Son, what happened come and take the bucket out’ the old man shouted at him. Garang slowly got up and held the bucket; he feared to look down again. He felt a jerk towards the wall as if someone was pushing him from behind. ‘Help, help, help me someone is pushing me down’ Garang slipped and fell into the well. The older man kept on shouting from behind, but Garang’s voice stopped coming from the well.

(The same night in the village near the highway)

Garang woke up by the noise coming from the room in which he as sleeping. He woke up with surprise; we were in one of the houses of the village. ‘What am I doing here’ he asked the doctor who was sitting right beside him, ‘You fell in the well, one of the villagers helped and we took you out and brought you here.’ The older man answered. ‘You should thank him for saving your life’ the doctor added. ‘Ya, I will surely .’ Garang replied ‘But we need to go to the hospital, as soon as possible’ he said. ‘We will be going tomorrow, the highway is unsafe at night,’ said the doctor.

An older woman offered them some food after which they went to sleep.

Garang couldn’t sleep at night, so he went outside the house for some fresh air. He saw a woman sitting under a tree; she was crying badly. He went towards her, but she hid her face with both her arms and started crying even louder. Garang put his hands on her shoulder to console her; she suddenly rose to twice her height and grabbed his neck. Garang couldn’t breathe for a while. He increased his efforts, and with all his power on his hands, he pushed the woman beside and ran as fast as he could. He hit an older man who was tying the lamp on the floor. ‘Please help me, the woman there she will kill me, please help.’ The man turned towards him. He had no face, projections of black dust surrounded him; he attacked Garang. This time Garang had no option but to surrender to death. But the older man had different plans he threw Garang in the mud. Garang ran to save his life. He slipped while running and fell. He drifted his head upwards and realized that he lied in the feet of the same woman that he saw crying.
