" Science,Commerce or humanities ?" - sounds familiar? Well, that's not a question, but a confusion that majority of us face. Following the arousal of such a confusion requires a thorough understanding and exploration of our interests by devouring societal and similar such pressures and finally coming to a massive decision for the benefit of our own self.
With regard to this, i would like to share with my beloved readers an incident that happened with me at that phase when I had to choose MY stream of study. On the last day of my ICSE (class 10 board) exams, a list was put up on the notice board in my school of the stream and class allocation. After checking my name, as I was going out, one of my classmates came up and asked, " Shayeri, why didn't I see your name under the science section?" I even have certain neighbours asking my mother, " Doctor or Engineer?"
You know what do we call that kind of a mentality? Stereotype. Orthodox notions. From the above queries, it seems that a student's success is determined ONLY by taking up science and NOTHING else. But do you really think that is true? Don't we have successful social workers, writers, chartered accountants, businessmen and women in our country? Did they all take up science to reach where they are today?
With respect to stream selection, I find a slight fault with our education system, and that is, we do not have the ABSOLUTE liberty to take up the subjects of our choice. To be precise, till date, I haven't heard of a single person say that he or she studies a science subject and a humanities subject together, for example, history and chemistry. Such a limitation automatically narrows down our scope and opportunities. I don't know why any modifications do not take place for the purpose of diversification of educational opportunities but this is a very critical topic to be considered and discussed by the heads of our country.
No profession is low or high. Similarly, no stream - science, Commerce or humanities, is low or high. The rate of success will be determined by nothing but the amount of effort, sincerity and love with which we do our work. Nobody else will be responsible for our future. So be wise enough to choose the best for yourself. It's your life, strive to make it large.
