" Educating a girl today, empowers the woman of tomorrow"

It is no secret that the girls are more prone to be excluded from education than boys. Not only in India, but globally in many countries, girls are victims of social injustice and gender inequality. In the age of internet and globalization when humankind is making new leaps and bounds in various frontiers, girls have to battle for their rights on education.

According to UN: "women make two-thirds of the world's 796 million illiterate population."
Globally girls are forced out of education due to cultural norms, early/ forced marriages, poverty, domestic violence, etc. It is even worse for those belonging to economically and socially backward families or socio-ethnic minorities. While many girls don't even get a chance to step into the schools, there are many who only have a primary level education. Around 31 million girls are devoid of primary level education of which a major portion resides in Nigeria, Pakistan, and Ethiopia.

Poverty still remains as a major influential factor in determining the accessibility of education to a girl. It is improbable for a girl from an economically backward community residing in a remote area to get access to education. The money running low is itself troublesome and the long distance to school adds up as another issue.

Lack of a safe environment in school compels the girls to unwillingly withdraw from school. In many subs, Saharan countries sexual and physical violence stands as a major barricade between the girls and their dream of living a better life.

Early marriage remains another headache. It is highly unlikely that a married girl child will ever step into the school again to complete her education. Even worse, her children may also suffer from the same fate.

An uneducated girl suffers from the denial of equal rights and wages. Why is that only one gender has an upper hand on the access to society's resources and knowledge while the other strives for its human rights? Even though both are humans, why is that the difference in their genders has brought a difference in living quality.

Girl education not only ensures the growth of the girl but that of a country as well.
Educating girls can solve many other major problems with gender inequality, child marriage, and poverty being a few. It is speculated that around 60 percent of the chronically hungry population are women and young girls. Had they've been provided with the same resources as men, this would’ve been decreased 12 to 17 percent.

An educated girl ensures the empowerment of women which in turn ensures better participation in the labor market, thus bridging the gender gap. An educated girl has more power to make the right choices for herself and herfamily, she can marry at a later age, have fewer children, educate her children and be more healthy than her uneducated counterparts.

The education of a girl safeguards her position as an accomplished citizen and most of all as a responsible human. A mother's education ensures that her child is well nourished. Thus reducing the numerous cases of malnourishment all around the world.

It is the duty of each and every human to ensure that there is not one uneducated woman in his/her surroundings. Our motivation can encourage them to stand on their own feet, to thrive for themselves and their families. They have the right to access the skills and knowledge and with our support, they can strive for themselves.

Men of the families should stand up against the cultural and social norms that stop the women of the family to get educated. There is numerous global organization such as PlanIndia, global giving, the safeena Hussain fund, the Malala fund, etc that focus on funding the girls' education and bringing classrooms to their area. Be a part of them. Bring about the change that you want to see. Who knows that a small contribution from any one of us may change the life of a girl somewhere in this world. She may get educated and make the most of her life which otherwise would have been tainted by the chains that her society and family may have put on her.

For every book given to a girl, a Malala is born, for every pen given to a girl, a Zainab Salba is born. As Erna Solberg, the prime minister of Norway said: " I am here to end poverty and get all girls educated", so am I. Where do you stand?
