Studio Ghibli is best known for its anime feature films. The studio's films have received many academy awards and nominations. Hayao Miyazaki, director of Studio Ghibli, is regarded as one of the greatest creators of animated films. There is a total of 22 films and here I'll tell you about my favorite three films.

3. Spirited Away

Spirited Away is the first Ghibli film to earn an Academy Award. The story is about a young girl, Chihiro, who is lost in a land full of spirits. The film is beautiful, has good animation and beautiful music. Plus a lot of weird spirits. It is at once funny, heart-breaking, inspiring, heart-warming, and even a little scary.

2. Grave of the Fireflies
Grave of the Fireflies may be the best Studio Ghibli movie no one ever wants to watch again. It is a mix of horror, empathy, sadness, and so many more emotions I can't even begin to list. The story revolves around two siblings left orphaned after a WWII air raid. They struggle together for food and a home. The movie makes you fall in love with the siblings and that makes their sufferings even harder to see. With all the tragedies, the movie depicts the sufferings of people caused by wars as they lose their family and home.It is a beautiful film that touches your heart.

1. Princess Mononoke
Many regard Princess Mononoke as one of the greatest animated films of all time. Not just the best Studio Ghibli movie but one of the best movies! It tells a story of the division between technology and nature, and how the two threaten to destroy one another. It features incredible creatures (kodamas are the cutest), slight romance, epic war scenes with beautiful animation, music and story. It tells the tale of Ashitaka, a boy cursed by a demon. He later meets a girl who lives with the wolves in a forest. It features a war story without bad guys, but with people driven to mutually destructive ends. It has some of the best dialogues -

"This is what hatred looks like! This is what it does when it catches hold of you! It's eating me alive, and very soon now it will kill me! Fear and anger only make it grow faster"

Apart from these three, I love My Neighbour Totoro a lot! It is a gentle and heart-warming tale of a little girl who discovers an entire forest of lively spirits. Totoro remains one of Miyazaki's most iconic creatures. It's a fun movie which you can watch to lighten your mood.

“Life is suffering. It is hard. The world is cursed. But still, you find reasons to keep living.”
