Don’t you think acid attacks are performed by the victims themselves?

The mentally victimized people can think about ruing someone’s beauty just for sake of revenge. As the intention of the attacker is not killing but humiliating the other. There are uncountable incidents of accede attacks as acid attacks happen across the world.But Bangladesh has the highest reported incidence of acid assault in the world. According to the Acid Survivors Foundation in Bangladesh, the country has reported3000acid attack victims since 1999, peaking at262victims for the year of 2002.

On the other hand, In India there was 300 acid attacks in 2016. Research indicates that the majorities of victims are women and girls and unlike Bangladesh where most attacks occur in the home.In India, acid attacks often occur in public places such as roads, schools, colleges. The real number of attacks is likely to exceed 1000 attacks a year.

This problem is very rooted. Many of a time such news is heard when a girl refuses someone’s proposal. These mentally victimized people then took revenge by ruining their beauty and ultimate their life. But there are plenty of girls who stand strong after the attacks and make their lives beautiful as their soul.

Women in India often face this situation when they stand out for their thoughts, refuse any proposal or say something which men dislike. Indian society is strongly dominated by men though some mentally accused men think they own women as their slaves. This kind of humiliation is must not be tolerated. Hence the Indian government has taken steps to address the problem through the passing of new acid specific act particularly around the control and sale of acid and compensation for survivors. However implementation of these laws varies from state to state. Unfortunately evidence suggests that key aspects of the laws are not being effectively enforced. Acid remains easy to obtain and many survivors have trouble accessing compensation, medical care and justice.

The Section 326 A in theIndianPenal Code lays down thepunishment for acid throwing. The minimumpenalty is 10 years' imprisonment. It can extend up to life imprisonment with fine. A separate law topunishoffenders in such cases was passed along with amendment of law on sexual offences.

Acid attacks just not ruin the beauty of a woman but can also damage their eyes, can turn into permanent blindness too. Not only the physical damage but also the mental disturbance is caused by such a crime.
