Normally people who suffer from severe traumatic experiences which induce unimaginable amounts of stress and test the strength of their minds generally survive them with a significant amount of mental scars to carry around for the rest of their lives. But there are some events which can twist a person's psyche into something irreparable. Their personality and their morality changes entirely and become unrecognizablefrom their past selves. Such people are classified by psychiatrists as psychopaths.

General Idea

A psychopath is generally described as a person suffering from a personality disorder showing traits of ego, lack of empathy and extreme tendencies towards physical violence.

Distinguished researchers from TheSocietyfor the Scientific Study Psychopathy(SSSP) have revealed that psychopathy is all about the study of the mechanism of the battle between morality and aggression in a human being. It is observed in various animal species that aggression creeps up in the animals when other animals display submissive cues. Humans, however, have a mechanism which mediates the aggression during the times of distress and stressful situations. Psychopaths, however, dont possess this violence inhibitor. This is a causal model of the delicate mind of a human which has the probability to either break or get converted into an ugly manifestation of villiany or a character we admire in the movies and TV shows.

Our Subject

For this article, we will be dwelling deep into the mind of none other than the legendary fictional character -Hannibal Lecter. He is considered to be one of the best-written characters in the books of Thomas Harris and also in the film and TV adaptation. Personally, the TV adaptation was my first glimpse of the cannibal and actually showed how his mind works. Mads Mikkelsen has portrayed the character in an astounding manner and won several awards for his role in the TV series.

In the TV Universe, Hannibal Lecter is a renowned doctor and psychiatrist who possesses an eidetic memory, speaks multiple languages and also has a refined taste for art and human flesh in the form of fancy gourmets. He executes everything with elegance and brilliance which draws a fine line between genius and insanity. In the real world, psychiatrists consider him to be an odd harmony between pure order and utter chaos. He used to be an advisor in several cases for the FBI and also the secret arch-rival of Will Graham. The analogy of his perspective on the world is that all humans are pigs and are just there to be slaughtered and eaten as seen fit. He considers himself to be the creator of transcendentalart which indicates he has a serious personality disorder and a God Complex.

Bottom Line

Psychopaths are extremely rare but psychopaths like Hannibal Lecter are one of a kind. Some say his mind is so complex that he truly can never be classified as a person anymore rather he is now a primal beast with an insatiable hunger for human flesh.
