Nepotism is a term that we quite often come across, especially when it's related to Bollywood. But what is Nepotism? Nepotism is a practice in which people with power or influence of some sort favour other people by giving them jobs etc. But how exactly does Nepotism work in Bollywood?

It functions very subtly or sometimes not and we suddenly see the debut of a new comer who happens to come from a "film background". Recently a lot of debate has happened regarding nepotism but nothing really has eradicated the practice yet. We see "the" sons and daughters of famous Bollywood celebrities who debut under a famous banner and are an instant hit among the audience. But to think closely, is it fair? Well some may say that since their parents are actors, they are supposed to be actors too. Yes. But what about talent? What about the struggle? Most of these actors are spoon fed with success and they really don't have to work hard as such. Nepotism has given us a lot of good actors but it always reminds us that they did not have to work hard at all. It all really came their way and they just picked the right opportunity and the right director perhaps. But let's not forget that it also gave us some actors, we wished we never saw them on the big screen. Bollywood did have to say a lot of things where some agreed that it's a bad practice in the B-town while some decidedly kept shut. But with everything said, is Nepotism a harmful practice?

A lot of the young actors who have no connection with Bollywood or movies and who have recently shown stellar performances in their movies agree that somewhere down the line nepotism makes it an unfair game. It takes them years to get noticed and then land up with a movie. Whereas B-town kids have it easy and smooth. They become famous even before starring in a movie. Many famous A-list celebrities have spoken against it and proved that it only makes it difficult for the "non-film background" actors who have to go through a lot to make their place in Bollywood.

Nepotism has been a constant topic of discussion among the stars and actors. The influence of social media has also played an important role in this regard as it brings everything under the limelight. It has put many actors in awkward situations because everyone knows that it exists and they simply can't get away by saying anything they feel like.

Nepotism exists, it will exist in the near future but what matters is that Bollywood has good actors who will make the industry proud. And as for actors who struggle really hard to achieve their place in Bollywood will do so anyway because the audience watches everything. Everything.
