Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam - a name who travelled a journey from Rameshwaram to Rashtrapati Bhavan. He was a man with a perfect blend of elegance and earthiness. From being raised as boat owner's son to being elected as the 11th president of India he attempted for every endeavour he could do to the mankind. We miss a person with an ageing rock hair-style, kind heart and the great thoughts who always reflected his love for the mother nation and above all his clear and intelligent vision for the future and an enduring legacy. He was a man who spent his whole life in igniting minds towards innovation.
Kalam always believed in excellent education and innovation. He thinks that innovation is the only change which creates new dimension. According to him, education is the only key weapon which can bring the gratitude of giving rather than taking. Real education enhances the dignity and the universal brotherhood. In this context he always used to quote that "When learning is purposeful creativity blossoms, when creativity blossoms thinking emanates. When thinking emanates knowledge is fully lit. When knowledge is lit, economy flourishes."
Dr. Kalam always dreamed of an a education system which instruments for a true and an inclusive development of an individual. Education system should not only be confined to just learning to write one's name but should be set to the standards of creativity and research, moral and an entrepreneurial leadership. As childhood is the foundation stone upon which stands the whole life's structure thus, the education imparted at the very beginning stage of life shapes the future of a child just like the potter give shapes to his creations.
Quality education is an important point which needs to be focused on. Practical and moral education should be emphasised rather than only having the theoretical knowledge. Practical education enhances our ability to analyse, research, enquire and create the innovative approach to the realistic problems. Moral education which provokes the idea of unity in diversity, brotherhood, mutual respect and pluralistic values is very much required so that the motto of "to love and serve" could be cherished. Kalam's concept of education reflects the thought of equal education without any discrimination.
Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam always believed that the youth is the strength of the nation. He said that, a nation dies without a vision. He has a tremendous love in his heart for children and feels that the future of our country lives in them.Today's young generation should challenge the education system with their creative minds so that one day we might be able to achieve India of his dreams where every child should be given the equal opportunities of education without any discrimination of caste, creed, wealth or gender inequalities so that every single child could strive towards excellence and also rise and say- "I am Kalam".
