Dreams are a succession or series of clips, images and emotions occurring involuntarily in our sleep. They are hallucinations and are strongest during REM(Rapid Eye Movement) sleep. REM means the movement of eyes in sleep and this stage usually starts 90 minutes after falling asleep. Babies have 50% of REM sleep while adults have about 20% of REM sleep. Adults have 5 to 7 REM cycles in one night.Dream Analysis or Dream Interpretation as a process of finding the meaning of a dream. Many books have been written on this subject. 'The interpretation of Dreams' is such book by Sigmund Freud in 1899.
Freud describes three main types of dreams:
1. Direct prophecies received in the dream i.e chrematismos, oraculum.
2. The foretelling of a future event i.e orama, visio.
3. The symbolic dream i.e requiring interpretation.
Further there are more types of Dreams. Some of them are as follow:
Lucid Dreaming: In those dreams the person is aware of the fact that they are dreaming.
Daydreams: Dreams dreamt during the waking hours.
Nightmares: Dreams that wake up the dreamer with anxiety and fear.
Epic Dreams: Those dreams that are huge and compelling and unignorable. They stay fresh as memory for years.
Prophetic Dreams: These dreams foretell future. They are also known as Psychic Dreams.
Signal Dreams: Those dream give solutions to problems.
Healing Dreams: These dreams are related to health. They tell something is wrong even before the symptoms show up.
Recurring Dreams: These dreams repeat itself with slight variation.
Dreams like falling out teeth, meeting a celebrity or falling are common dreams. Not being able to move or unable to move feet fast is a signal of low self confidence and low self esteem.To see a house in a dream represents your own soul and self. Specific rooms indicate a specific aspect of psyche. Death dreams indicate the symbolic ending of something whether it's a phase or a job. Dreaming nothing is a common dream, it symbolises insecurities and anxiety or a sense of failure about something. We dream every night though we remember it or not. There is no scientific explanation for forgetting a dream yet. Dreams also impact mood of the dreamer. The dreams are connected to past experiences even with a minor connection. Thus one can conclude that dreams can impact our day to day life.
