All of us know about the Indian Navy force which regulates the sea’s which guard the Indian subcontinent from all the 3 sides, but Only a few of us know about the Merchant Navy! Thanks to the not so broad educational realms that we actually know of.

Getting into merchant navy is just like any other profession but with it comes lots of responsibilities, sacrifices, and determination. Life in the sea is very different from life at the land and to stay away from your families for long years sailing somewhere far away with the motto in your heart that “Job comes first" requires a lot of guts in itself. Not only your profession but also your study period will be different from all the others. The timetable is challenging and with lots of restrictions. Student’s there are deprived of almost everything. They are taught to lead a very disciplined life where everything is controlled by the needles of the clock. Not like other graduates where college ends at 2, it’s a lot more for them. From the early morning Physical training classes to hectic day in college where you’ve to pay attention to every point that is being taught because you are going to apply that later and the modular courses like swimming and fire fighting which also have to be done side by side which clearly shows that they are indirectly trained to face all the hardships in future when they are going to set sail.

Coming to what job they do. Merchant Navy officers are employed by commercial shipping companies to work on all kinds of seagoing vessels, such as cruise liners, cargo ships, tankers, and hovercraft. They will oversee the operational responsibilities of the crew, such as the loading of cargo and the use of machinery. Apart from their smart uniform and fancy travel schedules, there’s lots more. The hardship and endurance out from their side to ensure that the people live their life on land peacefully also is a part of it. From Fighting the roughest seas to the roughest weather, from being socially inactive, working round the clock with monotonous schedules, living and following the toughest laws and regulations and with least accommodation and communication.

Mariner’s are among the most trustworthy people you’ll ever meet and that goes hand in hand with the job that they do in the international waters! Seafarers are often seen as happy-go-lucky people, who are always flashing a broad smile both on and off board ship. But there is a lot more to them. They are probably, one of the very few people in the world, who understand the true value of family and work. They know to enjoy life to there fullest and making the most of it.

To all the Mariner’s out there you deserve all the respect from each one of us and Good luck for the job that you’re doing out there. The ones who have to stay will always stay with you no matter what happens!
