Keoladeo wildlife sanctuary

The name of Bharatpur is synonymous with the Bird sanctuary which is the most visited place of this region!

And certainly, when you speak of Bharatpur, a name that comes to your mind is Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary. This place is full of exotic, enthusiastic foreign visitors who flock from all parts of the globe like migratory birds to visit this enchanting place.

During the different seasons, this sanctuary displays a wide contrast of colors where springtime is reserved for nesting and courtship, rains for breeding and rearing young, but the melodious song, that is heard during winter of all the birds singing in unison is of no comparison!

This land once served as the hunting ground of the Maharaja of Bharatpur but was later converted into a bird sanctuary,comes under the purview of the most visited places of India.

To get the most out of this ephemeral experience, you need to strategically plan out the different sections of the trip.

Morning
The first rays of the sun glancing out into the vast open fields, take a beautiful look at the early morning bird life and the birdsong of kingfishers, larks, warbler and the spectacular view of the water Birds( ducks, geese, pelicans and flamingos) as they maneuver their way through the fields!

Post lunch trip
After your hard heart-felt fulfilling lunch( since Rajasthani cuisine is the best) head towards the place where you get to see pythons!

The Mansarovar and the Hansarovar marshes and swamps are an important location for heronries of the world, and undoubtedly this Keoladeo Bird Sanctuary is a World Heritage site.

The Pelican and flamingos are busy fishing in deep waters with the center of attention on the fish! Here you will find the painted storks roost loudly.

Sambar, Chital,Nilgai and Mongoose can quite easily be spotted in the park.

Boat ride in itself is a great adventure as it gives an opportunity to the traveler to get close to the birds and have the rarest click!

Lohagarh Fort

This stunning landscape was built by Raja Surajmal in the 18th century which is the testimony to the merging of Mughal and Rajput architecture.

The Museum in the fort contains a multitude of exhibits reflecting the regions culture, inscriptions, and sculptures that date back to the 2nd century!

Timings 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Location: This birdwatchers’ paradise is in north-eastern Rajasthan near the UP border, within the golden triangle of Agra, Delhi, and Jaipur, 38 km from Mathura

Route: NH2 to Mathura via Palwal, Hodal and Kosi Kalan; state road from Mathura to Bharatpur.
