What Does Happiness Or Sadness Depend Upon?

Perspective, a word used a million times in our lives, in drawing, architecture or even in the motivational speeches. But it is a word that has a much deeper meaning than just the sentence it is used in. In a very bookish language, perspective is defined as the “True understanding of the relative importance of things; a sense of proportion.” But what it actually represents in our daily life is a matter of prime importance as it is what the happiness or sadness of an individual dwells upon.

Perspective is not a universal concept, it is something that lies within each individual. It is never a constant in an equation of the brain of an individual, it varies. The dependence of which is not on time or place, but still affects the state of mind. Actually, it is a part of a very complicated loop as it affects the state of mind but is also affected by it.

Anything and everything that happens in this world, is not the same to all people, the world in not an ideal place and you don’t really live in utopia.

If you are an Indian National Congress supporter and vote for it in every elections, doesn’t it bother you to see it lose? You must constantly wonder why all those people out there are voting for BJP when Congress is better. Or if you are BJP supporter, you would ponder upon why a particular good leader joined Congress. What you neglect in these situations is the role of perspective. Each person has his/her own way of measuring the importance of the good and bad aspects of a situation. This different scheme of marking makes the decisions non-uniform and different for people with different perspectives.

A sunset for you if you live in India, is a beautiful view. It marks the time for you to retire from your work routine and get a good night’s sleep. Or in case of mountains or beaches, it is an altogether pleasant moment as there is hope, a hope for a new beginning on the day that follows. But for a person in Iceland, it is a bane for once the sun sets, their life is dark for months. Some of you might relent the sun as you don’t want another day to start, but some people really long for it.

All I believe is that if one experiences what is in sync with his/her perspective, happiness comes automatically and an opposite flow of the event results in an unhappy time. Saying that change your perspective and you’ll be happy is a senseless thing as the loop of the ‘state of mind’ cannot be much meddled with. But rising above your perspective and not being adamant about it can surely make you happy in the long run.

A good piece of writing on a subject for the modern society. It implies that one can change the disposition towards an object by simply changing his perspective.
