Sometimes the only way to stay sane is to go a little crazy

Can you possibly imagine an organization operating just to manoeuvre the human minds successfully into doing their bidding and ruining the mental and emotional stability of that particular individual? It wasn’t the Russians who wanted to take over the world, nor the terrorists but the first-world nation United States of America. Project MK Ultra was Central Intelligence Agency’s top-secretive, sadistic mind control program that conducted illegal human experiments from the year 1953 to 1973. For 20 years, both volunteered and non-willing participants were tested with various mind-numbing drugs and illegal procedures. These victims’ minds were weakened with drugs and confessions were forced out of them. MK Ultra used numerous methods to hypnosis, sensory deprivation, administration of mind altering drugs, isolation, electroshock therapy, sexual abuse to manipulate people’s mental states and alter their brain’s normal functions. MK Ultra functioned everywhere in the USA; in schools, in churches, in hospitals and prisons. Canadian citizens, immigrants, homeless people, orphans, mentally ill patients, prostitutes and prisoners made perfect case study for the CIA. They poached victims who had no one to turn to and nowhere to hide and corrupted their minds for brainwashing experiments. People were isolated and beaten without their consent and their behavioural patterns were taken note of.

The project attempted to fabricate the ultimate “Truth drug” for the US government to capture and interrogate Soviet spies and learn all the secrets of the Russian government. The CIA came up with the mind control project when USA had nowhere to turn to and was engulfed by Paranoia. US had already lost its Nuclear Monopoly and communism was about to hit every inch of America. Cold War had left America over-suspicious that Soviet Russia, China and Korea were brainwashing US prisoners.

The key ingredient of MK Ultra was LSD-25 which dominated almost every experiment they ever conducted which was at least 150 human experiments to be exact. The administration of LSD was in the grounds to find out which drugs bring out deep confessions and which ones totally wipe out the minds of the victims. Another type of investigation was to administrate barbiturate into one arm and anamphetamineinto the other. The barbiturates were released into the person first, and as soon as the person began to fall asleep, the amphetamines were released. This resulted in the person babbling incoherently which opened up the possibility to ask questions and get answers. Imagine having lunch one fine noon and then experiencing psychotic breakdown the next minute with no idea what went down. Project MK Ultra ruthlessly exploited innocent victims who never knew they were on narcotics. The government also employed prostitutes to lure men of party cities of the US to the CIA safe houses and slipped LSD in their drinks. They then took notes of the behaviour of drug-dosed men.

Frank Olson, an US army biochemist, was given LSD without his knowledge or consent in November, 1953, as part of a CIA experiment. This resulted in the subject committing suicide by jumping out of a window a week later after a severe psychotic episode without any known reason. Soon, speculations began to surround CIA’s secret operation. The deaths of the subjects led to the discovery of the CIA’s dirty work.

In 1974, a New York Times journalist, Seymour Hersh brought the top-secret operation to light with his story about how the CIA had conducted non-consensual drug experiments and illegal spying operations on U.S. citizens which shook the people of USA. The unearthing of these human projects forced the then President Ford to set up the United States President’s Commission on CIA Activities within the United States to investigate illegal CIA activities. Even though CIA’s Project MK Ultra ceased to function after public revelations, we never know who is watching us and making moves behind the secret door of Government. It is rumoured that MK Ultra never went out of existence and is still observing un-suspecting citizens move on with their daily lives.
