The necessity of Sex Education is one of the most debatable topic of recent days, in a country where rape and gender violence are rising rapidly. The objective of sex education and it’s implementation has gone through various changes and has been added to the curriculum few years before but only in a few places. Titled under the category of Health Education, it has a number of benefits.

• The first thing society should understand is that sex education is not just about the process of giving birth, its a general awareness of one’s body. And it can be beautiful thing. In India very often people have the tendency to skip it altogether, considering it as a taboo. Moreover sex is not always physical; few times even incidents of repressed sexuality can lead to an emotional turmoil.

• Health education creates awareness. Instead if keeping it out of the table, for the sake educational purposes, children should be able to ask, and address their doubts on gender and sexuality. Teachers should stop skipping those biology chapters of reproduction and focus on the misconceptions to be cleared out.

• A boy or girl entering adolescent period, experience certain changes, and it’s very important for them to have proper knowledge of their bodies.

• A recent survey has shown that it is due to the lack of sexual awareness, that child abuse is increasing day by day where the child goes through traumatic experiences and the sad part is they fail to disclose the name of predator. Very often our society tries to submerge these abuses referring them to be a shameful incident, and it’s better to ignore it. Similarly homophobia, sexual inequality is being promoted by this ignorance. Hence it can be said that sexual education comes under base of human rights and it is our duty to create awareness. So it can said that sex education is just as important as other subjects; as far as parents are concerned it is much more than mere sexual intercourse.

• In India sex education is focused on three objectives; targets the adolescents, family planning and prevention of HIV or other sexual transmitted diseases. It can be a critical but important manifestation of education. In order to make India a better place we should all start with education; and it has the tool and techniques to create greater awareness. It is our duty to teach them personal safety and the necessity to respect and understand opposite sex. The teacher should encourage them to come up with confusions and organise awareness programme for the sake of humanity.
