Book – Diary of a wimpy kid

Author – Jeff Kinney

The diary of a wimpy kid had me in its grip from a very long time. The moment I got my eyes on its cover and the quirky cartoons that were drawn inside the book, I wanted to own and read it. After a lot of months of procrastinating through my book cart (I was broke AF), I decided to use up my savings to gather this offer on that book. So this is how I ended up with that book.

I went gaga over the cover of this book. The best thing for me was the cover of that book, so bright and eye catching with all those handwriting fonts phrasing some serious sarcasm. I was all hyped up for that book and then I started to read the book.

The book is not short but quite fast so if you are a speed reader then you might skim it into hours, as I being a normal reader completed that book in less than 3 hours. The illustrations are enjoyable and you will want to read a few of the illustrations again.

I wasn’t laughing throughout the book but yeah, few of the pages cracked me up. That book is anything but for children below 13 to 15 years. I think that’s the age group that should be given this book and not the smaller ones. The book tells the story of a high school teen who presents his points of life.

The story is nothing new but the illustrations are what make it different. I liked that quirky handwriting like font used by the author and publishers. Also, the lines running throughout the book gave the feeling of a journal.

The beginning of the book is good and I got a lot of opportunities to laugh but as I moved forward, the opportunities reduced. The book in overall is good but would’ve been fantastic if the hilarity of the beginning would’ve carried it till end.

But don’t hesitate a bit if you want to dive into this book just because it has childlike caricatures. It will leave you cracking like hell sometimes, so you better we warned.

Overall, it’s a very light read and I would’ve preferred it a few years earlier into my reading list than today but if you want to read it, you can give it a try. I will suggest it more or less for early teenage readers or teenagers.
