The Havoc Caused By Rains

Rains are eagerly waited in the summers. They bring the much needed relief from the sweltering heat. They bring the temperature down. The weather becomes cool and pleasant even though for a brief period. The dust settles down. Everything in nature looks green and beautiful. People come out and enjoy the showers .The farmers look happy as their fields get watered.

However there is always a bad side to everything, so is with these rains. These rains create havoc many times. Excessive and prolonged rains cause floods in low lying areas. Sometimes they uproot the

people by flooding there houses. They cause all round destruction, Last year the two days of continuous rain caused unlimited problems for the people residing in the city. When the rain started all of them were happy. There had been no rained since the last two three months at a stretch. It was unbearably hot and humid. The earth was parched and dry. When the clouds made their appearance, people heaved a sigh of relief. It began to drizzle. The drizzle changed into a heavy downpour.

What came as a relief soon turned into a headache and then into a cause of concern. The sky continued to burst in all its fury. The rain went on and on .there was water and water everywhere. The narrow lanes and streets turned into running streams of water. In some low lying areas there was waist deep water.

Traffic jams on important road got prolonged and dangerous. A few accidents took place. Near a crossing there was a big, open manhole. A scooterist lost his balance and fell down badly in the water. Luckily, he did not fall into the manhole. But he seemed to have got a minor fracture. Some cars and bikes broke down in deep water. The cyclists and rickshaw pullers had to drag their vehicles with great difficulty. Many office going people could not reach destinations. Students missed their classes.

When the rain did not stopped on the second day itself, the city folks became serous and worried. Everybody started praying to god of rained to show some mercy. Reports came in that few houses have developed cracks. A roof caved in killing and old woman and a child. The authorities rushed to the place to provide relief.

After about twenty two hours, the rain got relented. The rain stopped. However the problems for the residents of the city lingered on for a few more days .the roads got badly broken. There were deep pits of water here and there. Life became normal by and by. It goes to prove that excess of everything is bad.
