The boy stood up. He was appreciated for the best performance in the class. Students clapped in unison, teacher patted on his back.

And SUDDENLY, a slap on his face.
Before the sudden slap startles you, translocate yourself to a setting where the boy is doing odd jobs in a restaurant.

He was slapped because he left the drinks on the wrong table.
It certainly reveals child labour, yet it it hard to miss everywhere around us. And the prominent reason for children to be engaged in work is "Money", to make both ends meet.

But thanks to an initiative like RTE, the boy is studying in a school and that too exceptionally well. There are numerous boys like him, who are able to study all thanks to RTE.

As per Benjamin Franklin, " An investment in knowledge pays the best interest."
So the initiative is definitely worthy.

But what exactly is RTE?
▪️RTE stands for Right to Compulsory and free education.
▪️The act provides compulsory and free education to all the children of the age of 6-14 years.
▪️It was assented on 26 August, 2009 and became operative on 1 April, 2010.
▪️RTE prohibits the detaining of any child before the completion of elementary education. The absence of which may have led to a dejected, nervous and demotivated individual.

▪️The policy has been widely blamed because the no-detaining policy does not favour quality education, which certainly must be looked into.

▪️Measures like mid-day meals, free books, free uniform and financial aid are positively favouring the implementation of the act.

▪️The act also prohibits corporal punishment and mental harassment to students.
▪️ Private schools are also required ot reserve 25% of their seats for the economically-backward classes. The reservation cannot be put into isolated divisions, but has to be inclusive so that the children from different backgrounds interact and connect with one another. They thus grow up to be broad-minded. This social engineering will integrate the society and the nation.

RTE this is a wonderful piece of legislation to bring the country on the road to speedy growth and development.

"The whole purpose of education is to turn mirrors into windows", said Sydney I Harris.
In our country, there are lakhs of young minds yearning to transform their mirrors of imagination into windows of reality.

Let us give them a fair chance!
