SSB Personal Interview: Do's and Dont's

Personal Interview is one of the most important part of SSB. It gives you chance to represent your personality in front of an officer. He will be a high rank officer and his remarks on you will matter the most.

This interview can increase or decrease the chances of selection, so prepare well

So Let's start

1. Before the Interview : Do's

  • Make sure you are in formal attire and well dressed.

  • Try to be smart and well equipped.

  • While going for the interview make sure you are wearing chest no. and is properly tied.

  • Use neck tie below the chest no. so that the officer can see your chest no. easily.

Dont's

  • Don't ask for anything to anyone like tie,shoe etc. make sure you carry your own.

  • Don't give anything to other person as it may lead to unwanted frustration during the crucial hours of your golden chance and can disturb your attitude as well.

  • While waiting for your interview don't talk to others.

  • Don't talk to the candidates who are coming after giving the interview. It can lead you in trouble as warning is given in the waiting room that do not stop in the premises after the interview.

Interview : Body Language

  1. Hands

  • ​​​​​​​Keep your hands out of your pockets during the interview. Hidden hands indicate that you have something to hide.

  • Beware of over-using hand gestures as it can be distracting.

  • During interview avoid folding your arms as it will be interpreted as you are in a defensive mode. You can fold your hand loosely on your lap or place your arms on the arm rest if your chair has them.

2. Eyes

  • It is important to make eye contact with the IO. Make sure it is not staring.

  • If you feel uncomfortable try to look at the nose of IO.

  • Make a smile during eye contact it will be a sign of positive body language.

  • If you feel your eye contact is becoming staring, it is ok to take periodic breaks, but don't look down as it may indicate that you dont believe what you are saying.

3. Sitting Posture

  • When sitting put your feet on the floor and lean slightly forwards.

  • Your posture reflects your energy, as well as your interest level, enthusiasm and self control.

  • Sitting on the edge of the chair will give the impression that you are tense and uncomfortable.

  • Avoid sitting too far forward.
