Nature is the lifeline of every living entity on earth. But it really becomes difficult for humans to deal with or live in harmony with nature, once it(nature) turns out to be a taker rather giver. Suddenly, the thing which was soothing us seems to become a nightmare. The losses caused by natural calamities are tremendous both in physical and physiological terms.

A similar incidence of natural calamity -‘FLOOD’, took place in Keral on 9th August 2018, which affected all 14 districts of Kerala and was the period of national emergency. People of Kerala suffered tremendously, especially the Agrarian sector-Farmers. Floods ruined their farms leaving them worried as

their main source of income suffered a huge loss. What happened cannot be changed but we can atleast try to mend it. Certain ways could be practised in order to relief farmers like-

1. Practising of co-operative farming where farmers could pool their reminiscent resources.

2. Farmers can grow selected short duration crop varities which have the potential to give high yield in less time and will also serve them economically.

3. Government should organise census covering all the 14 districts and try to sort farmers based on the the land they own. Accordingly, they should provide –‘Direct Fund Transfer Benefits’ to these needy farmers.

4. Taking lesson from such calamities farmers should enroll themselves for crop insurance
schemes like – Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.

5. Flood enriches fertility of soil thus, minimising the need of fertiliser for cultivation. Farmers need to be made aware about this benefit.

Another , severe crisis faced was the hike in the prices of food items and the health of populations suffered Obviously, we grow food in order to stay healthy, its scarcity will directly affect our health. In order to cope up with this problem some measures need to be followed like-

1. Timely dispatch of food items and ensuring the food reaches, the affected citizen via helicopter services.

2. Regular spray of insecticide by government agents in order to curb the vectors of diseases.

3. Increase the area of accomodation by converting temporarily school, college and office bulidings into rehabilitation centre to ensure hygiene.

4. Government should make sure that there are proper medical facilities like- a team of doctors in the area , distribution of certain basic medicines and proper ambulance facilities.

Natural disasters are inevitable but preparedness for the scenario could definitely minimise the loss.
