Nirbhay Missile

India recently flight tested its indigenous missile named Nirbhay meaning the fearless.This missile is a sub-sonic cruise missile which can carry nuclear warheads to a strike range of 1000 km.It is capable enough of carrying conventional and nuclear warheads.Its successful testing was held at Chandipur off the Odisha coast in Balasore district..It was fired for a shorter range from a launch pad from the Integrated Test Range(ITR).The Nirbhay is considered to be the India’s answer to the US Tomahawk missiles and to Pakistan’s Babur land attack cruise missile(LACM).This missile has been at the development stage for over a decade and three of its six tests till now have failed.

The DRDO said that the test of the missile which demonstrated its sea skimming capability to cruise at very low altitudes was successful in obtaining all its mission objectives.After the initial blast off with a solid propellant rocket engine to gain spped and altitude.Nirbhay is desighned to deploy its smallish wings and tail fins in the second stage and fly like an unmanned aircraft.This missile can carry warheads upto 300 kg.It can travel with a turbofan or turbojet engine and is guided by a highly advanced inertial navigation system.The lst successful test launch of this missile took place in Nov 2017.This mission boosted up the confidence level of all the scientists associated wit it.The missile is capable enough of loitering and cruising at 0.7 Mach at altitude as low as 100 metre.The state of the art missile which can be deployed from multiple platforms was test fired from launch comple 3 of the ITR.The missile took off was held in a programmed manner and all critical operations like launch phase,booster deployment,engine start,wing deployment and other parameters were demonstrated through autonomous way point navigation.

The surface version of Nirbhay missile was test fired for the first time on 12 March 2013 from the ITR at Chandipur.This recent trail of Nirbhay missile is its 6tgh such trial.Out of these 6 trails 3 have failed.This achievement to DRDO is very important as its gives a reflection of the current defence system of India.After the Shakti mission this year this is the second achievent to the DRDO.This shows India’s advancement in the field of technology and defence system.India is very proud of the scientists who were conducting this mission.We wish much more great success to the DRDO which will enchance defence system of the country and will make India a supreme power.
